I had reserved the free upgrade to win10 some months ago. I got tired to the constant update window so I removed KB305583. Afterwards I notice that there are still a number of entries in the registry for GWX and a few file directories pertaining to GWX that I cant delete. Now when windows update tells me that I have updates and I allow them to start (nineteen win7 and office security updates) the first thing that it tries to do is install the win10 setup files which causes me to abort the update process. I have checked the 19 important updates and none of them are about win10. I do not want to install win10 at this time. How can I stop the win10 update from trying to install?

I had the same issue and even after removing every possible gwx and related windows updates it still showed that it was gonna download windows 10 in the updater, however after giving up and just letting it run it said downloading setup files, then after about 15 seconds it said creating restore point and then it was done. It didn't actually install anything that I can tell for windows 10. After that my windows updates showed normally.
