This computer is a mess. What I would like to do is run SFC and see if I can restore some of the .sys files. Since it will not boot, the only way I know to get to a DOS prompt is through the install disk/command prompt. But it appears to me that it is not giving me sufficient privileges to run SFC /scannow .

Any way to elevate privileges using the install disk?

Went through Startup repair about 200x times today. Will not boot even in safe mode. Problems with TCPIP.sys, Fwpkclnt.sys and now BSOD with some unknown file. Chkdsk /R has been run twice. Also ran a bootable virus scanner, viruses were found.

Ok, I put up the post I had before. I took it down because I thought it was a bit premature. But after reading your update, it might be appropriate.
BSOD, Malware, missing system files, can't boot - this is the easiest thing I can think of that stands a chance in helping.

It's your choice of course, you can wait for suggestions from other members.

This will write over the Windows install, basically it's an install in place or an upgrade install using the same version.
It won't bother your user data - but read the ifno, tip, warning, and other boxes - they're there to help you.

Confirm the infection is cleaned up with one or more other bootable AV's from Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start until you can get into Safe Mode with Networking to update and run a full scan with Malwarebytes.

Once cleaned up try repairing the system files which may not repair until infection is gone: SFC /SCANNOW Run in Command Prompt at Boot from Win7 disk Command Line.

Then continue with the other steps in Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to do a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which steps are the same for retail compiling everything that works best in tens of thousands of Win7 installs we've helped with here.

It's a catch 22. I can't run SFC from the Recovery Command Prompt. Getting "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation". I can't even boot to Safe Mode with command prompt. XP seemed to have much better (and less "automated") recovery tools.

Startup Repair may automate SFC. Try several of those. Is the OS discovered for repair. If not try the bootrec steps. These may also work on their own and there are plenty of others to try in tutorial.

Permissions are not required using the Installation DVD for repairs.

The infection may have made it irreparable which is why
To use several bootable scans and ask in our Security section for specialized help on the specific infection found.

The steps lead up to rescuing files to quarantine and how to do a perfect reinstall which you can skip to at any point since the payoff is a better install than everyone else has.

Instead of complaining about 7, you could do what was asked of you.

Please read this tutorial and respond back on each step letting us know what happens with each step.

Your awesome for reading this.
I'm having a problem running SFC /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows
off of the install disk. C: is where the files are located. I have listed the error. If you have a suggestion TO SOLVE THAT PROBLEM please post it.

When you come to the top tech forums on the web and you are asked questions to interact for repairs, then answer the questions we ask without complaint if you want to continue.

Are youi running SFC from the Win7 installation media Command Line which requires no permissions or Log In?

Correct.

Laptop can't boot. To LKG - Safe Mode - Anything. 93 attempts at restore. Using from WIN7 install disk command prompt.
SFC /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows
Using correct drive designation
Net Started trustedinstaller
Did the whole Bootrec trilogy

Please add your SF Systems Specs by following this tutorial:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/180324-system-info-see-your-system-specs.html
  • In the System Manufacturer/Model Number field, manually type Desktop or Laptop adding it to the information already in the field.
  • Specify Custom Build as the manufacturer if it is not an OEM machine.
  • The tool does not fill in this information but it is very important if someone has to research drivers or hardware for your machine.
Log on to Sevenforums (SF) and let the tool fill in you System specs on your SF profile.

Full instructions are in the tutorial. It's a simple process and it makes that information readily available on your posts. You don't have to retype the information in any thread.

Click here to view your system specs on SevenForums.

Click on My System Specs in the lower left of any post by any member to see what is presented about their machine.

It's impossible to provide any useful information that might help solve the issue unless members have information about your machine.

Desktop PC with Win7 Pro (currently in your SevenForums Profile System Specs) is not sufficient for troubleshooting purposes

Thanks

Are there any LEDs or Beeps when you start the machine?

This is perplexing, I'm not sure what to suggest other than
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/166445-windows-defender-offline.html (WDO)

You'll have to know how to boot your machine from a DVD drive - usually an Fkey at BIOS startup but before Windows starts. I don't know what Fkey your BIOS assigns to the Boot menu, so you'll have to check the manual, Fkeys are different depending on the machine.

You only have a few seconds to hit enter once you get the Boot menu, otherwise Windows starts normally and you have to try again.

Let WDO it's work and report anything it finds.

It posts, boots and starts to load Windows and then goes into repair mode and says that it could not repair.

I have also been booting to the installation DVD. It also passed two CHKDSK /R and a downloaded AVG "repair" antivirus CD. I guess I will try the WDO.

I don't think it is a hardware problem.

You might just have to backup your files and start all over. You def have a very messed up system if none of the options worked.
