ok, do i need to install a sata driver if i'm tring to run my sata drive in native ide mode? right now i have the sata hdd in sata2_0 on the motherboard, the on chip sata controller enabled and set to native ide.( this is default) the bios sees the hdd, and its seen in post as ide device, but windows setup does not. when i tried to load the drivers they where not seen, tried the one from the mb utility disk and the new one from gigabyte site for win7 64

But first i tried intalling with the sata type as ahci, the bios also seen the hdd this way and it was seen as ahci device in post when i get to the load sata driver i load them from usb flash drive (drivers are seen in ahci) the driver seems to install but after about a min or so of the loading bar it says no drive found i put this hdd in another win7 pc as a second hdd and it showed up and installed fine. i went ahead and formatted the drive and copied a few files to it and it worked fine. so then i started reading hundreds of post on tech sites plenty on this subject everywhere most seemed fixed by running sata in native ide mode so thats why i tried that. of all the sites i seen this one seems to be the best, plenty of users that really know what they are talking about. is there other bios settings involved? maybe an issue with the gigabyte driver? do i need to load a driver in sata as ide mode? i also updated bios with an old ide hdd that i installed with no issue but this drive is now dead my motherboard is a gigabyte ma-785g-udh3 and the hdd is a western digital caviler blue 500 gig this is my first build with sata so its all new to me and also i am using amd, not had any luck finding a bootable ati driver for win7 64 anyone know of one? my complete pc stats are in my profile thanks much in advance i'm sure someone here knows what i'm doing wrong

If possible, boot into the install disc and run the installation from there, as opposed to running setup.exe from withing Windows.

Not sure if that's what you are doing.

See my post Common Installation Problems.

Did you try running installer from the existing OS?

You said you put HD in another PC and drive was detected. Try installing there and moving HD back to problem computer. This is what I do when I have to spend too much time troubleshooting why OS won't install. Win7 has started up every time, swapping out all drivers while requesting several restarts. No performance hit at all. Worth a try.

yea i tried that also went as far as installing an old ide hdd into the problem pc and installed fine, then hooked up the sata drive and windows seen it put the windows disk in started setup note the sata hdd showed up under my comp when using it as a back up with windows installed on the the old hdd setup still didn't reconize i have no idea what i'm missing

Try punctuation to start.;) I'll ask again:

Do you have another SATA computer that you can put your SATA HD into, install Win7, then move it back to the problem computer to see if it will start up, swap out the drivers (with restarts) and then run?
