So I updated the network configuration (added OpenDNS IPs) and rebooted. And windows promptly disabled my wireless mouse. I tried rebooting, I tried other ports, I tried connecting another mouse, I even tried a USB-to-PS2 adapter connected to a ghastly old ball mouse. Nothing works.

What to do?

Thanks.

Do a system restore to a point before you started having this problem.. ;)

I disabled system restore some time ago for storage problems. I made an image of the system partition to restore in cases like this, but the drive on which I stored the image died and I forgot to do another one. Yeah, stupid, I know. :(

Try removing OpenDns from your network configuration....

Upon further experimentation, it's clear that the problem isn't restricted to the mouse - the entire USB subsystem seems to be disabled. Anything plugged in the USB ports might as well not be there. And I know it's not a hardware problem because Linux boots on the same computer and USB works just fine.

*sigh* what now?
