Win7 x64 turns off the screen and cannot go back

I left my laptop running fine last night and Win7 turns off my display after 5 mins of inactivity. So when I woke up in the morning the screen was black, the problem is that I cannot do anything with the laptop anymore. Pressing keyboard keys or moving the mouse doesn't make the display go back as it used to be. I can also see that the HDD LED activity light is not flashing anymore. The laptop obviously froze so I had to hard reboot. This is not normal, what could be causing it? I tried looking at Event Viewer and I found nothing suspicious, there was the "expected" Kernel-Power error stating that the shutdown was unexpected, simply because I had to hard reboot. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Yes I can.

I have no problems with my computer now. This just happened last night but I don't know if it will happen again. The computer just turned off the display a few minutes ago and I did not have problem going back.

Alright. Well I'm not at school age anymore but I use it as my main computer. I just really wanted to know what was the cause of it All my power settings are at default too.

Type cmd in search
In cmd type device manager.
Look at all the cards, any yellow warnings that a card or driver is defective?

Update your graphics driver

No yellow warnings or whatsoever. All my drivers are updated, I'm quite obsessive compulsive about them. And yes, my graphics driver is also updated.

What is the make and date on your graphics card driver?

I've just done sfc /scannow and it repaired some errors but mostly with codec files I think. Should I attach the text file of the process? In the guide, it is said that if I don't see "no errors" after the scan, I should do system restore. Should I still do system restore if the process already repaired some of the integrity mismtaches?

I will try malwarebytes and nod32 full scan now.

The make and date of my graphics card driver is 8.17.12.5947 and 8/21/2010, respectively.

Is that an ATI card?

SFC is fine.

It's an NVIDIA Card. Nvidia GeForce GTX 285M.

Btw, I noticed another problem. Everytime I restart the computer the system rating says "New hardware detected. Your Windows Experience Index need to be refreshed". I referesh it and when I restart the computer again, it says the same thing. This is getting weirder.

Go to device manager and printers and devices to make sure all hardware is recongized.

They are all recognized except for my network printer which is turned off right now. That printer was installed a long time ago and the "new hardware detected" message was not there, just now. The icon of the printer is a grey arrow that doesn't present "error" per-se.

I have to guess at stuff, because I cant see it. The computer may be sensing that printer, and tells you to update each boot. That may be it.

Now I just reformatted my laptop and reinstalled all the latest drivers again. This time I did not install the printer to eliminate it as the possible cause of the problem. But still, the WEI says "New hardware detected. Your Windows Experience Index need to be refreshed" every single time I restart the computer. When I hit refresh, it goes directly to "Accessing Memory Performance" for about 3 seconds and the WEI score is already refreshed.

Any ideas? I'm getting frustrated by this.
