Win7Home Premium SP1 (32bits) 3,0 GbRAM is running TOOO DAMM SLOW

Hello to all,

My DELL VOSTRO 1510 works, but too slow.
I just made a full check with my AVAST Premier that found almost nothing wrong.
I also defragmented the HD (250Gb), did a chkdsk and looked for bad sectors on the HD. Found nothing wrong.
The HD has 70% of its capacity full.
What can I do so it starts to run at its normal speed?
One thing that calls my attention is that the HD runs almost without stopping.

I welcome any help.

well; one big thing you can do if you have the means to do so is to upgrade the amount of ram in your system which will help speed things up a bit because 3gb ram is not that much. If you cant do that; I would close any programs you know you arent going to need running as having too many programs open at one time can slow down a system with not a lot of ram in it.

70% full and probably a 5400rpm hdd ?
Sounds to me like you need to upgrade
1) to a ssd
2) to a larger ssd than your hdd
3) Usually just having Avast will bloat up an os and bring it to a crawl
4) Switch to Panda after uninstalling Avast thoroughly

Well you have a 32 bit Windows 7 so 4 gigs of ram is all you can install and use. It will help a little.
ThrashZone has some good ideas. A ssd would be a big bag for the buck.

To start with, I'm no expert on computer matters, far from it.
I think that my system (32bits) does not accept more than 3Gb RAM.
Also, I closed almost all of my programs, using "msconfig", and the system is still too slow.

What is driving me crazy is that my HD almost doesn't stop from running.

That's my situation at the moment.

Your suggestion seems very good to me and makes a lot of sense, but it will take lots of time to be completed.

I will try it this coming week.

No big problem, because I have another and more powerful laptop to use, while trying to to correct my old and lazy one.
