Win7Ultimate & corrupted photos

Photos are corrupted in Win7 Ultimate only. I have tried: different memory cards, reformatted memory card, tried a different camera, different monitor, loaded the SAME photos from the memory card to Windows XP AND Windows 7 HP and the photos are fine. I have also tried viewing the photos in different photo viewing software on W7U with the same result.

Not all of the photos are corrupted. And the ones that are, are just fine on other computers. Short of reformatting the hard drive and reinstalling Win7 Ultimate I cannot seem to find a reason.

The photos are "cut in half" horizontally with the two halves being out of alignment AND the color on the top half is slightly lighter and less vivid than the bottom half. Sometimes one half of the photo is just light gray with no image or color at all.

Several including Windows Live Gallery and Adobe CS3 and one other...I have forgotten but it was a free viewer I dl from cnet..Orfan I think. All of the thumbnails indicated the picture was fine but when opened it was distorted. I think I have ruled out software, the memory card, the camera, and the compatibility since I opened those pics on another computer with Windows 7 HP and one with XP and the same photos were fine. Also the photo properties didn't indicate a problem. I just cant think of anything else to eliminate beside the reformatting. We even bought and formatted a new memory card for this camera and pics from other cameras do the same thing on this computer. Appreciate any thoughts on this, as I am dreading reformatting and reloading W7U. The owner does not have a disc to reload but we do have the product key and I own a retail version of W7U, so I CAN reload but what if happens again?? UGH. Thank You.

I apologize for taking so long to answer. I should have asked this when I still had the machine, but I gave it back to the owner since I could not fix the problem. I am waiting on her response about the device manager. Will post back soon as I know. Thank you.

Well finally heard back from the owner. Nothing flagged in device manager. It HAS to be W7U. Different camera same problem on THAT system. Different memory card. Different monitor. Different photo viewer software. Not all of the photos taken on the same day/time are corrupted. She has begun loading them to her old XP desktop to save the uncorrupted copies. But when she copies them or moves them to the W7U machine some are corrupted even though they were NOT corrupted on the Xp machine.
Any other ideas? Thanks for reading and/or helping with ideas.

It's my opinion that the picture viewer that comes with Win 7 is a POS. I had a similar problem with the default viewer in Win 7 Home Premium on my notebook. Some photos would be compressed vertically. Since I had Office 2007 Home and Student installed on it, I just changed the default to Office Picture Manager. I'm now using Office 2010 Home and Student on both of my machines (one running Win 7 Ultimate) and its Picture Manager also works fine.

I agree about the photo viewer in W7. It's bad. And I love the Office Picture Manager, too. But this problem can be recreated in several different viewers on the W7U machine, so I know it's not the viewer. Too bad, though. That would be easy.
