Win7Ultimate - XPS 1645 random sudden BSOD

I have been after this problem for about 2 months.

Changing everything from USB vs. BT keyboard to hibernate vs. shutdown.

The problem seems from USB driver and two system components left "disabled" per dell suggestion since it complains with a yellow exclam point when activated.

Any help would be appreciated, as dell is taking the shotgun approach of reformatting (for the 3rd time!) and throwing random pseudo solutions at the problems is not intelligent problem tracking!

System Windows 7 Ultimate N = (Non-OEM)
Dell Studio XPS 1645, i7, 8GB, 750GB.

Any pointers or general direction woudl be dilligently pursued,

If you are getting true bluescreens please upload the DMP files.
If you are not please check event viewer.


* To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
Zip up the copy.
Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.



* To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
OK your way out.
Reboot if changes have been made.



* There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

75% of the time is instanteneous reboot, 25% blue screen.

The issue is intermitent and I cannot find a pattern. Other than USB, also the the two system components which were disabled at Dell's recommendation.

The dumps were added to the post (funny, the system actually did the roll over and play dead thing while I was tryign to zip the folder)

Virtually all of these (and there are at least 5 different causes) are USBHUB.sys related. Your pacer most frequently.


I would update all the USB device drivers and run a system file check to verify and repair the OS files.

Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW
