It appears to me, perhaps to very many others also, that alternatives exist to the desktop applications that Microsoft provides. While it seems to be the call of the FOSS folks to inundate any Windows forum with Free Open Source Software, I suggest this for your Music Library needs:

If you have a large Music Library, want it load up now, like imperssive visualizations, and an impressive destop mode, look at:

WINAMP

I've used Winamp as my music player for years, but not for visualizations, just to play music in the background.

Do I still find it better than WMP12? Absolutely, but I only need it for simple playback of MP3's and some FLAC. WMP12 just kinda sits there.

I've always installed a copy of winamp on my sytems - though I fin that as I tend to play music in the background rather than as the main use of the system I use it less and less over time.

WMP is still set as default for all formats it handles - just makes things easier with integration with the OS (explorer).

For my library management I use mediamonkey as I find this more powerful that the others for tagging and organisation

I also prefer Mediamonkey. WMP12 is just fine for audio playback, and it is also what I would watch a DVD with, but MediaMonkey works better for everything else that I would need a program of the sort to do.

Winamp does me fine. Becasue it just plays the music, which is what I want it to do.
I absolutely hate WMP and any of the similar programmes that want to reorganise the files, or insist on making playlists or create libraries and stuff like that.
It's a file: I want to run it as a file.
Point, click, play. That's what Windows was meant to do. :p

The mouse took most research. I hate that click on the wheel, this one has the old fashioned smooth wheel. There aren't many about.
