Window 7 Backup Failing

Howdy Steve,
Thanks, that is a great tool. Unfortunately 2 days ago I dropped from 10, I'm back up to about seven with a Critical Error Windows failure to start unable to determine cause, this morning. Keeping my fingers crossed. Had a power failure yesterday which gave me an improper shutdown which really sank me. I'll keep an eye on this puppy!

Thanks for looking in and offering a helping hand. After the clean reinstall everything worked great as far as I am able to tell. Windows backup let me make a System Image that saved me, when loading a program seems to have faulted my SATA DVD drive. I used the System Image and finally installed all my programs. Everything seemed to be doing fine until this morning when it failed to start. I posted a new thread on this.
My message above tells what the Reliability Monitor had to say about it. So am I running correctly, I don't know. The previous symptoms were so obscure as to be impossible to remember like the right click manage option on Computer failed to work.
I guess time will tell. I did a full System Image with Macrium last night, but I don't know what caused the starting problem so it may be on that Image.

well at this time I'll only suggest, although you've probable done it before:
1. download Microsoft Security Essentials,
2. Using control panel, programs and features, delete your current av software,
3. install and run Microsoft Security Essentials.
4. download, install and run Malware Bytes anti-malware,

If those two give you a clean bill of health, then we'll proceed.

Oh yes, since it is the summer months, are you running your computer in a clean and cool environment? I've included a bunch of links for you.

1. Download MalwareBytes. Malwarebytes

6. Reconnect to Internet.
7. Update MalwareBytes.
8. Run malwarebytes quick scan again.(remove any bad guys). 3min 38secs on my laptop.
9. Run MalwareBytes full scan. 16min 8secs on my laptop. With large,full disk ~2hours.

Currently, I am happy with the security of McAfee which is already purchased, so I probably won't be uninstalling that. Also Anti-Malware I have and run it regularly, but will do so again. I also have SuperAntiSpyware and a program I like called Threatfire which is to be added to your existing protection as an extra layer. It often catches changes prior to McAfee and when oked McAfee pop up a choice box.
Will run anti-Malware immediately.

sounds like overkill to me.

Strongly recommend only using anti-malware bytes program and one and only one other program. Although I find MSE to be far superior to McAffee (as confirmed by independent organizations), it is a solid av program.

Be sure to use Windows Firewall only.

I appreciate your learned advice. Right now McAfee and Threatfire are all that run resident. I just use the others for independent standalone scans. Paranoia is the ultimate expression of self-preservation .
Again for some reason, I don't have the confidence in what my extremely limited opinion, considers the main targets. I have had many people laud the Windows Security programs. For now I feel secure.
I have a Gigabyte motherboard that has dual bios. Of course there were no instructions in the manual on how to use them. I remember in the BIOS you can copy it to CMOS, or the other way around. I did one. That may have been the wrong choice and thus changed my BIOS settings.
In your experience, which way should I copy to save the current working settings, and which should I use to repair a garbled setting?

I have seen a feller put one together in 15" at one of the computer shows.:shock:

Hi Glenn, hope you were able to beat back those 'gators.

We had some storms roll through a few hours ago, and our machine had a power outage shutdown.
I was able to bring back everything okay, and I went to check on event viewer. The one item that stood out was Event ID, 7036. Source, Service Control Manager.

So while I was looking that up I came across this:
Windows 7 Home Prem. services continuously stopping and re-starting

Not sure if it would be relevant, but what caught my eye was the OP had a gigabyte MotherBoard (MB), and the OP had update problems, and event 7036.

Something else.
The forum has a sub-forum dedicated to gigabyte MB's that is moderated by gigabyte techs. It also looks busy and current.
