I bought a new thinkpad T500 with window 7 ultimate 32 operation system. I just found out that the system and the LMS (Local manageability service) take up 90% of the CPU, so I am unable to run other programs. My T500 has 2 duo P8800 (2.66 GHZ and 2.67 GHZ) and 3 GB memory. The memory is ok and there is spare capacity.

Any suggestion how to reduce idle CPU usage ?. Do I need to downgrade the operating system to Window 7 home32 or professional 32 ?

Thanks

This sounds like proprietary crap - post a screenshot of your msconfig startup tab. Search for snip in the start menu.

One of your services is corrupted.. try doing a clean boot. but disable all the Services for windows as well and see if you still have 90% of CPU usage..

Hi there
Something is Broken. (Not helpful - sorry -- but obviously something is hideously wrong).
As others have suggested try and disable services.

Why not do a nice clean FRESH install -- Lenovo (aka IBM) thinkpads are quite OK machines to work with.

Most "bought" machines have a load of "crap" and bloat ware already installed.
I'd download GPARTED (free) , re-format the disks and start again. Backup any data you need however before you start.

Actually if you are doing a new install why not go for the x-64 bit version -- Your choice however. I think even with only 3 GB RAM its still worthwhile running X-64 in any case -- future proofing for your next upgrade etc.

Cheers
