hello

i bought a student window 7 last night
i downloaded and make an image and burned it on to a dvd
how ever the problem is when i am installing window 7 .. it says i don't have or it can not find my dvd driver...

i do not understand why it needs my dvd driver when it already is using it ..
my dvd rom is a SATA and its simply just plug and play there is no driver..

does anyone know how to solve this ?

i have a window xp 32bit
and my window 7 is a 64bit

thank you

Sure... just extract the contents of the DVD to a spare drive/partition and run setup.exe from there.... Welcome to the forums! ;)

Make a small 10gb partition on one of the other drives and use winrar to extract the contents of the ISO to there...

and then boot from that harddrive?
i would have to reformat the harddrive to make the small 10gb partition right ?

no, not at all .. you would not be booting from the spare hard drive... its just for extracting the files...

Hello Panda and welcome to the forum.
Your initial post is indicative of what I experienced last week. If you are agreeable I can share suggestions on how to resolve the issue of the missing DVD Driver error. But first some questions:
  1. Like you I have an optical drive that is connected via SATA port. have you checked your bios and made sure that the drive is seen, and SATA connected?
  2. Is your STORAGE configured for AHCI or IDE? I have mine set to IDE.
  3. Are you performing the install by DVD? Or 4 gig flash drive? If you are going to use a flash drive (The perferred method of many) make sure its bootable.
  4. If you extracted the .iso did you extract at the slowest speed?
If you can respond back we can proceed further.

Regards,
Adrian

Hi Adrian thank you for helping

1. I have checked and the Bios reads my dvd drive .. i actually put in another dvd drive and upgraded the firmware on it earlier and ran window 7 installation again and it still was asking for drivers. Yes both dvd rom are SATA connected

2. I have it set on IDE

3. I am performing by DVD .. that is why I am confused why it is asking me for dvd rom drivers since it is booting and running from DVD rom

4. I did not extracted the ISO actually .. I used to guide in the generals forum to create an ISO from the student promotion download... i then burned the image to a dvd .. it was burned at the speed of 2-3x

is it asking for drivers because it is detecting my window xp ?

if i were to partition the harddrive so it doesn't have any OS on it .. and then boot up window 7 installation .. would it by pass this problem?

Panda, I have seen successful installations by putting the installation on a partition on C:\ drive.
However the boot priority needs to be changed to the partition as the installation needs to boot first.
