Solved Window Maximizes When I Click X

Hello all...

W7 HP 64 SP1 completely patched on new Toshiba C55 Laptop

Set up a new laptop for a friend and have a weird little bug that only happens intermittently... (NOTE: SNAP FEATURE IS OFF in all Ease Of Use categories)... but every once in awhile when I am working in a window that is not maximized, and I click the top right red X to close it, instead it maximizes.

This has nothing to do with being near the edge of the desktop and yes, snap is OFF.

It happens in regular MS Windows like Computer...

The laptop is completely clean of all crapware, adware, 3rd party games, trialware, cloud services, any kind of insecure software. All software is genuine and the OS was factory installed. And there isn't that much software on it. Plus it's running AVAST and I did a boot scan.

Googling only brought up the snap feature and no one described this exact behavior.

Ideas? TIA!!

Try it without the av running for a bit. See if the maximize problem goes away.

Also I'd recommend a complete scan with Malwarebytes antimalware
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - Protect, Detect & Remove Malware From Your PC

Free version works just fine for scans.

Thanks for that suggestion... I do have the free MalwareBytes installed but I think the problem is a mouse driver problem... am using the built-in touchpad and have the Glide/Momentum feature enabled so it moves like a trackball... much nicer to use but I disabled that feature a few min ago and so far no weird window behavior... this is the latest Synaptics driver Toshiba has for the machine, but I am sure the Synaptics site itself has a newer one... will continue using it without the momentum/glide enabled and see if that was it, then decide what to do. If not, I will run a MB scan as suggested, or disable AVAST and try that... Thanks again.

I have Toshiba also. I'm mouse oriented, but always hated gestures or anything that I suspect is related. On touch I disabled everything but the Windows 8 Desktop hot corners. No swipes. No two finger salutes etc..

Hm.... wrote a reply just now and it went through a wormhole I guess... It was the glide/momentum feature causing the wonky window behavior. Too bad cause that's a nice feature and the only one I had enabled aside from tap zones. Glad to know what was causing it though! Thanks again for your replies. Have a good one.
