Good day,

Today while using my PC I noticed that the windows search option no longer works. If I try and search for something it says 'No Items Match Your Search'. I've tried going into the contol panel and reseting to default but no luck. Has anyone else had similar issues? If so, how can I fix it?

I've even tried restoring all the folders i'm searching and still no luck. For instance if I open the music folder and search for DJ I get nothing although I have hundreds of folders starting with DJ.

I'm in the process of backing up all my media files which will take a few hours just incase I have to do a reinstall as I've searched the entire net I think and have tried everyting with no luck. I'm completely lost to be honest.:o

Yes, I have with no luck.

Is the index process running in task manager when you search for something?

does it ever find things?

Have you set it to search in title only or title and text?

Yes, it is running in task manager. It used to find items yesterday but today it has decided to do it's own thing. I'm not sure how it is set-up. I let a friend use the PC for a while earlier not sure what he could have done.

It seems as if my libraries are empty but that's not the case.

I'm going to give Microsoft a call in the morning to see if they can help. If not I'll just do a reinstall.

If I run the install disk will it fix the problems or will it do a full install?

OK. Sorry for asking/posting so much but I've never came across such a problem which seems so simple to fix but is not. I've been at it for about 3 hours now.:sleepy: I just created a new folder and put 3 files in there 2 starting with the same word and tried searching the folder and nothing. I think confused is an under statement at this point. I'd hate to have to do a reinstall for such a small issue.

What do you mean you tried searching? Are you doing this from Windows Explorer? Please be explicit and tell us exactly what you are doing. Maybe that will jog someones mind a bit.

OK let's say you open your music folder and in the top right corner there is a search bar which should say Search Music. If I type in DJ it would tell me No Items match Your Search when I actually have over 100 folders that begin with DJ. It used to work but just stopped all of a sudden.

So you are storing them in Windows media player?

Open Win media player and opposite to search (in the bar) is an arrow/dropdown menu explaining how to find things in different ways Libraries/folders etc

Also under "organise" on far left - looking down the panel I get an icon showing says "search in other libraries".

No they are not in WMP. I noticed if I go into My Music it would search but if I use the Music Shortcut in Windows Explorer I get nothing.

No they are not in WMP. I noticed if I go into My Music it would search but if I use the Music Shortcut in Windows Explorer I get nothing.

So right click on 'music' icon > properties > "include a folder"

Tell it where to look in/find as many folders you made - as you like!

Highlight the folder in the panel you pointed to &
Make sure location is ticked/checked by clicking "set save location"

Reset to 'defaults' if your mate messed with it ie "Optimised for music"

It should automatically search for your folders again!

Hopefully you're sorted.
