Windows 10 flag not showing up, despite a bunch of fixes...

New guy, long story - I'll try to be brief.

Had a bunch of viruses (came in with a scooter shop manual attempted download), used BitDefender, MalWareBytes, etc. to clean up the computer. Started to get other issues, despite apparent normal activity for the most part...no Windows updates for several weeks (that should have been a clue!) - attempts at updates gave hexadecimal error code. Tried to perform backup...hexadecimal error code. Tried several Windows fix-it tools...hexadecimal code errors on every one of them.

What started this is when I wondered why I wasn't getting the Windows 10 reservation flag (my local tech guru says that, on balance, Win 10 is worth doing). That's where I discovered I couldn't get updates at all.

Finally contacted Windows Help Desk. They tried to fix it by remote operation, and advised a whole bunch of files in Windows were corrupted. In the end, they installed a slightly later version of Windows 7 Home Premium x64, with non-corrupted files.

Okay, all operations seem to be back to normal (and a LOT faster!)...but still no Win 10 flag.

I went through every single installed & available windows update file, but KB3035583 wasn't among them. I finally found a way to download & install it...still no flag. I tried running a command-level routine to install it...still no flag. I even tried a zip-to-batch-file, which pretty much everyone agrees is a guaranteed fix...still no flag.

BTW, one interesting bit - the KB3035583 update I have installed just says "Update for Windows (KB3035583)", not "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based systems (update number)", like the other updates. Could THAT have something to do with it?

I've tried every single fix I can find on the 'net, but nothing seems to work. I do have Genuine Windows 7 Premium Home Edition, x64 (OEM installed), with automatic updates (including optional ones) enabled, but still...nothing.

I've plain run out of ideas.

Anybody find any other fixes?

I tend to distrust many 'helpful' shops that reinstall....


Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data



If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files untilthe final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately afterzipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for anumber of reasons)



Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

Ignore errors produced when clicking on theCopy button - they simply mean that the tool could not create the backup files for some reason. The data is still copied to the clipboard for pasting to your response.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!

Well, I figured Widows techs at Microsoft were probably reliable - I didn't trust local computer shops with unknown expertise.

In the end, though, I finally fixed it!!

In going through some of the steps I'd tried unsuccessfully I decided to try some of them again (such as the system update readiness tool). With the new instal of Win7, it worked. I also noted that the new instal wasn't registered, so I did the phone registration.

One more reboot and up popped the flag!! Looks like everything is back to normal - more than that, really, as my computer is running faster & better than since it was new.
