We are excited to begin delivering Windows 10 to the world today. We’re really pleased with the strong response to Windows 10 since we kicked off upgrade reservations in early June, with millions of reservations. As we shared in early July, we want to make sure all of our customers have a great upgrade experience, so we’ll roll-out Windows 10 in phases to help manage the demand.

Yep me too Carwiz. 3 of my machines are Media Center PC's hooked up to TV's and 2 have tuners (3 between 2 of them) and they are staying put till EOL. What M$ are spending on advertising 10 could have paid for the development of a new media center and support it for 10 years a 100 times over. I guess we are not part of the brave new world of 5 seconds attention span.

Yeah a year is a long time...since they already found a 1Gb patch to update....nearly SP1 before the date!

By the way, i'm using right now the "MediaCreationToolx64.exe" to have the ISO/Setup.exe on a 4Go Usb Stick. I'm almost done with it, it has finished downloaded and transferring the files to the bootable Usb stick. So, its ready!

Dunno after...If or not?

I've to clean a bit, clear passwords, unmount my raid0, uninstall some softwares & AV, etc....looking for drivers before and so on. Read about UEFI or Not.

Don't mind Media Center to go away now, though!

I'm retired from the local paper and it can get quite expensive; Back in 2008 when I retired ours was $1500 and up per edition for a full page ad.

It depends on several factors:

• The size of the area the paper serves.

• The actual circulation. The San Antonio Express has 96,726 Daily, 190,723 Sunday, so the Sunday paper would cost more to run. I picked the Express at random.

• Color in the ad, which you mentioned.

• demographic figures and how affluent the readers are. Generally, the more readers the higher the column inch rate is.

From what I could find the San Antonio Express-News charges $330 per column inch for black only, and there are 127.5 column inches in the printable area of a newspaper page; So, for a page and a half that could come to at least $63,112.50 for that one edition and don't forget there is color involved, it could easily approach $65,000 to $70,000 USD.

To expand on this; I would believe there is at least one paper at or over 100,000 circulation in each of the 50 States, some states have more than one but lets keep it at 50 newspapers. that $70,000 would come to three and a half million dollars.

Taking this graphic of the top ten papers in the US lets divide their circulation by 100,000 and multiplying by 70,000 we come up with a little over $6.6million USD, now don't forget I'm low-balling this figure because I don't know what these papers charge for color:


This doesn't include the other 189 countries; If you take the 10.1 million at least to advertise the opening day of Windows 10 here in the States and multiply that by 189 you come up with $1,908,900,000 and that's a B for Billion USD...:shock:

In summation; that 1.9 billion could be higher or lower. Advertisers and newspapers have been known to make deals in exchange for future "favors", and don't take these figures as gospel it's only rough figurin' on my part.

Its a bit of a challenge passing through the Microsoft Account nowadays...is something to accept or not.

This have to be evaluate properly.


The downloaded Windows 10 Setup have created two folder in C:\Windows...~BT is quite empty and ~WS have his 5.75Gb loaded.

Microsoft has renewed its Privacy Policy and Service Agreement for Win10. For instance:

“We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to”, for example, “protect their customers” or “enforce the terms governing the use of the services”.

Pocono and Microsoft Announced Windows 10 400

LONG POND, PA (July 21, 2015) – Pocono Raceway and Microsoft announced today the renaming of the annual August NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race held at “The Tricky Triangle” as the Windows 10 400. The Windows 10 400 race weekend will take place from July 31st to August 2nd, just two days after the launch of Windows 10. For the first time ever, Microsoft’s popular operating system will be offered as a free upgrade* to customers with qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices.

“Today is an exciting day for us,” said Brandon Igdalsky, Pocono Raceway President/CEO. “Microsoft has been on the cutting edge of technology and innovation since its founding in 1975. The launch of their Windows 10 platform is something Pocono Raceway is extremely proud to promote during our final NASCAR race weekend of 2015. We look forward to celebrating with everyone from Microsoft, NASCAR and, most importantly, the race fans on Sunday, August 2nd.”

Microsoft, an Official Technology Partner of NASCAR, will have device displays and interactive experiences in the Fan Fair and Paddock areas at Pocono Raceway during the Windows 10 400 race weekend. Race fans and members of the NASCAR industry will be able to relax and enjoy Windows 10 devices at these locations. Additionally, everyone is invited to interact on their social media channels using the official race hashtag, #Windows10_400.

Additionally, Hendrick Motorsports driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., the defending winner of the August NSCS race at Pocono Raceway, will drive the No. 88 Microsoft Chevrolet SS during the Windows 10 400 race weekend.

For the race it is an unknown, but Allstate just paid 18.2 million for the brickyard 400. There's half of the 40M.

And here's the other half. For Jr's car anywhere from .5 to 20 million+:

• $500,000 to $2 million for an Associate sponsor - A logo on either the lower rear quarter panels, the rear deck lid, or one post.

• $2 to $5 million for a Major sponsor - A logo prominently displayed on either the rear quarter panels or the rear deck lid, and the uniforms.

• $10 to $20 million for a Primary sponsor - Logos on the entire hood and quarter panels, the signage below the quarter panels, most of the two posts, the equipment, the uniforms, as well as the color scheme of the car and team uniforms.

To be back on topic...

Yesterday installed Windows 10 with the upgrade Setup.exe downloaded...it took me twice attemp to install because it BSOD the first time with Graphics. I had to go in Bios and disable Mutiple Display.

The second attemp went fine and was able to get to the Windows 10 desktop, beautiful.
After few times hanging around in settings and so on, it asked me to reboot my computer.

Eh, eh, eh....Black screen at logon screen!!!

I don't even need to explain that, No??

All solution grabbed around didn't made it, and finally this morning i get the recovery console again and decided to "Restore to a Previous version of Windows"

TADA!!! Back to my Windows 7 desktop...

Pretty sad story for this new OS...

I know now its possible to upgrade fine under certain conditions due to hardware set up & Bios. It is just a shame that it had been through away RTM on the market and no valid graphics drivers on MS Server. I ended up with a the generic VGA driver!

Oh well, still a year to go.

PS: At least restore to previous version worked like a champ!! It had left my Windows 7 untouched!
