Hi there
Upgraded without incident a W7 Ultimate system to W10 Pro.

I re-installed CLEAN W7 SP1 (also needed around 1GB's worth of post installation updates !!) with no other stuff added other than a proper video driver for the computer and the internal SD card reader driver. Activated it and then did the W10 Free upgrade -- ZERO problems -- all activated too - proper retail version.

So far I'm happy with W10. Re-installed my programs -- only those I really needed - amazing how much junk I got rid of.

Office 2016 trial (valid for 120 days) also great on this system.

Cheers
jimbo

Glad it had worked for you...Did you reinstall Windows 7 with the ISO Media refresh from DigitalRiver (though the links are dead bynow)? Could avoid the weight of some post installation updates too.

The upgrade is perfect to have a valid the Windows 10 license key but i think a clean install afterward of 10 would be the best .

I'll wait the SR1 release now to see if they are updating the ISO to download with the MediaCreationTool.

Meanwhile,

on my side i've repaired the 50 entries in the corrupted Task Scheduler for my Windows 7 x64 Pro, after the "Rollback" Windows 10 to Windows 7 using this method:

MS10-092: Vulnerability in Task Scheduler could allow for elevation of privilege

I still have few entries that couldn't be repaired because it tells "Invalid Format" for those tasks.

I found one to repair for Win7 x64 Pro,
C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\Perftrack\BackgroundConfigSurveyor.

Could someone upload for me those, please:

*C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\RAC\RacTask (OK, I found a file, Thanks!)

*C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\Shell\WindowsParentalControls

*C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\Tcpip\IpAddressConflict1

*C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\Tcpip\IpAddressConflict2

You'll have to rename as .txt for it to be uploaded to the forums.

Thanks that will be grateful.:)

EDIT: I found that script: Repair "Corrupted/Tampered With" Scheduled Tasks.

But,
Since this script is blowing away registry entries and files, I STRONGLY suggest you try this on one scheduled task at a time until you are comfortable with it. In other words use at your own risk.

and

While this has only been tested on a Windows 2008 R2 server, it should work on other versions of Windows. I hope this helps those of you who perform an in-place upgrade.

Did one have tested on a Windows 7 Platform?

Edit 2: the script doesn't run properly with SetACL.exe

Microsoft has renewed its Privacy Policy and Service Agreement for Win10. For instance:
“We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to”, for example, “protect their customers” or “enforce the terms governing the use of the services”.
Source

I was thinking about the update but now I'm on indefinite hold.

There you go big brother is watching your every keystroke.
So MS is reading all your email if they so wish.
And all your files can be viewed.

This is very intrusive, also gives governments easy access to everything on your computer. No warrants, if they want to peer in they do so with windows 10?

I'm quoting myself to tell i found the trick to register in Task Scheduler & Registry those three corrupted tasks after the "Rollback":

*C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\Shell\WindowsParentalControls

*C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\Tcpip\IpAddressConflict1

*C:\Windows\System32\Microsoft\Windows\Tasks\Tcpip\IpAddressConflict2

You have to rename as .txt and open them. Simply remove first line and a bit of the second line of code that had been added with Windows 10 upgrade. Rename back and Import

What is the best approach put Win 10 on hold without giving up the ability to "upgrade" it to W10. Been an insider since the beginning, still waiting on my reservation to install. I want to let it install eventually (when MS tells me I can) and not use it and keep using Win7. I do not want to force the upgrade. I have W10 on other machines from the insider side and an upgrade from W8.1

One could let the notification "Get Windows 10" download with windows update the new OS on their machine, then fake to install.

At the pop-up windows there will be two choices, just click "Later Install", and not "Launch Install" and then hide the update in WU to prevents errors at logon.

Was thinking of the option to later install, but looked like a further option to pick a date was there??? Not sure what errors at logon are since I have not got that far yet.? But I guess that I still have to install it within the first year? Tx

Tx

Doing that manner could looks like to have a pre-loaded OS on the machine and then when you're ready you could unhide the update in WU and launch the process.

Errors in Windows Update will be displayed if you cancel the pre-loaded update but do not hide it in WU. You can easily see them in the Reliability Index Score tab and events log.

One could let the notification "Get Windows 10" download with windows update the new OS on their machine, then fake to install.

- for anyone jumping from Win7 straight to Win10, there's a heck of lot to take in..:geek:

- you'll be dealing with a whole new thing..
- so much to learn at once..

- easy to upgrade, sure
- but expect to be somewhat confused at first..

- great fun, though..
- ha, ha!! :what:

Looks Microsoft have updated the MediaCreationTool (x64 at least)...It's now version 10.0.10240.16423 and before was v10.0.10240.16399.

I'm creating a new key.:)

I would also have to agree with what most people have to say about upgrading to Windows 10, I did have it reserved just thought it would be kind of dumb to wait for a week or two for it or that is what it said for me at least.

Very easy to upgrade, just download the MediaCreationTool from Microsoft's website, have at least 15GB free on your OS drive and you are fit for fight.

Though upgrading it on my laptop might not have been the best choice, got a BSOD during a movie but it might just have been because it was in Blu-Ray quality and I do know the processor is not fast and strong enough to actually play the movie and then this other problem where when I try to shutdown the system it acts like a reboot rather than a shutdown, I can hear the machine shut down but 1-2 seconds later I hear the laptop boot up again and for the moment the only solution I've found is to manually press down the power button on the laptop..

But otherwise I do love the new OS, especially the bin icon, looks so classy and old.

A rumor I read it's better to use the shut down listing using winkey+X menu or right click the start button ?
