Problems upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 Home Premium Edition.
My computer spec's:
HP Pavilion P7-1254, AMD A6-3620 APU, Radeon graphics, 2.20 GHz, 8 Gb Ram, 64-bit operating system

Over past 10 days, I have attempted to upgrade to the Windows 10 from its icon on my computer. When W10 icon is clicked, it says my computer and system are suitable, then proceeds to the download of files. This download process takes about +12 hours (on ATT DSL basic), and I have attempted it about 10 times. After continuing problems each time, I searched the Internet for guidance and for others experiencing similar problems (for which there are many). I then proceeded to try these approaches.

Approach A.:
-turned off anti virus programs
-disconnected peripherals, including optical drive, printers, etc.
-turned off other software programs
then attempted upgrade, again without success.

->>downloads taking about 12 hours, then click "Accept terms", > Modern Setup Host has stopped working
error found: Code C190011F

Approach B with A:
ran "Windows Update Troubleshooter" multiple times, in between upgrade attempts, as recommended with each error alert/notice,
then attempted upgrade, again without success.

Approach C:
changed automatic DNS settings to new address, Google Public DNS address (IPv4):
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
then attempted upgrade, again without success.
files download, then to Installation... clicked "Accept terms", then, Modern Setup Host Error
again, Error C190011F

ran Windows Update Troubleshooter again, as recommended with each error alert/notice
Detail -
Error Code: 0x80070057
Root Cause: RC_Data Store
Collected file: Check SURLog.cab

Approach D:
Next tried this suggested routine from Windows community website:

Command Prompt (admin)

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
net stop cryptsvc

ren %systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 Catroot2.old
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution Software.Distribution.old

net start wuauserv
net start bits
net start cryptsvc

ran upgrade again, result, the Update routine seemed to hang at the "still starting" files download screen, never proceeding to the dialogue window showing download progress.

clicked Windows Update to try again, and again, error C190011F

What can I do to make the Upgrade work?

Are you willing to consider a Clean Install of Win 10 ?
A Clean Install would not "migrate" your Win7 programs and settings to Win 10.
You would have to re-install all programs and settings.
Here is a Clean Install tutorial:
Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First - Windows 10 Forums

If you only want to Upgrade W7 to W10 see this tutorial:
Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums

No matter what you do, you should create backup images before attempting the change.

Not currently OCd, under-volted.
I use Hybrid sleep, rarely re-boot or shutdown.

Hauppauge HD-PVR, Avermedia PCIe TV Tuner, Hauppauge PCI TV Tuner.
Also, turning off programs is not the same as having uninstalled them prior to a Upgrade.
All installed programs will attempt to convert to Win 10 even if they are turned off in Win 7.

The folks at sister site Win 10 might be able to better help with upgrade install issues, and what programs cause issues.

Problems with W10 upgrade from W7

My sense is that I would prefer to upgrade than do a clean install as I would like to avoid reinstalling all previous programs and data. This seems like it would be time consuming. However, from reading provided links, I understand that a clean install can be more efficient in that the old setup accumulated errors or incompatibilities are eliminated with the new format of the hard disk rather than carried over.

To the question of "why" upgrade? It seems that MS has been putting this out as an improvement in OS and that efforts will be directed to support customers and W10 in the future...?

I am reading the provided responder links now. Thanks
