Windows 10 upgrade

I have a Windows 7 Home Premium PC and I do not want Windows 10 foisted on me so can I believe Terry Myerson, Executive Vice President Windows and Devices Group of Microsoft when he says “After any upgrade, you can easily go back to your prior version of Windows within 31 days if you choose. We do this by keeping a full copy of your previous operating system on your device – including apps and settings – for the first 31 days following your upgrade. At any time during the first 31 days, you can go to “Settings->Update and Security->Recovery and Uninstall Windows 10” to return to your prior version of Windows.”

Question 1: -
Does anyone know after one “returns to your prior version of Windows” if Microsoft keep trying to force Windows 10 onto one’s computer or do they respect your decision and stop trying to install Windows 10 if Automatic Updates are selected?

He also states “You can specify that you no longer want to receive notifications of the Windows 10 upgrade through the Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 settings pages”.

Question 2: -
Does he mean we should untick the box “Give me updates for Microsoft products and check for new Optional Microsoft software when I update Windows”? If so then wouldn’t this also disable updates to Microsoft Office?

Thanks in advance,
Ken

Hello wiganken mate have you already tried 10?? if not and you have installed that wretched update KB303553 then to stop it from upgrading your machine - if you make any mistakes - use this to disable it.
Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums just use the disable download it will mark the registry to disbale the upgrade.

If you have that darn icon on the taskbar too just go into customising Notification area and stop it showing anything on the taskbar.

Unfortunately once you have downloaded that KB it is stuck in your registry you cannot get rid of it unless you doa clean install again and watch for the update when the machine is updating - tedious but worth it.

On returning to 7 from 10 unfortunately there are loads of posts that members put in thta have problems running 7 after supposedly getting rid of 10.

Thanks to you both. I know I have update KB3035583 hidden and check at each update time that it has not reappeared so I can keep it off my PC and secondly I have done the registry hack to include the DWORD "DisableOSUpgrade" and set the value to 1 (ON).
It may be that it will still allow Win 10 updates to download but will then cause them to fail to install and configure? I hope it will stop the Win 10 updates from downloading in the first place. I'll see if it works day after tomorrow, "Patch Tuesday"?
If I really have to I will try GWX Control Panel but for now watch this space.

Hi,
Yep I'm sure after reverting back to 7 from 10 everything will work as it should = not ;)

Once these updates have downloaded and installed they are difficult to totally remove,
Best to never load them if not interested in upgrading,

If too late remove all of them,

I agree Mike the sheer number of folks returning with issues beggars belief - personally I used a lengthy clean all in diskpart before I reinstalled my 7's.

wiganken I would do as I do if you return and that GWX cannot be removed from the registry by any means including system restore - I have tried;)
