Windows 7, 2 HDD's

I have seen several similar posts but none specific enough for what I'm looking for, maybe you all can give me a hand.

I just had my girl friends brother upgrade my pc from XP to 7. I have 2 HDD's, the main one I used to boot from has everything on it, unfortunately it is also still password protected. So, when I tried to switch which HDD I booted from it wouldnt let me like I used to do it with XP.

So I just tried switching the wires out between the two HDD's and it said something like there's a problem with 'bootmgr'.

When I try to access the indigitous files from this HDD it gives me "Access Denied".

I need to be able to either boot from that HDD so I can remove the stupid password, or find a way to access all my files & programs from this HDD.

Not sure I understand, but:

I assume the Win 7 install is to the drive that is NOT password protected?

Can you reinstall again to the drive that is not password protected, this time with your password protected drive disconnected?

Otherwise, someone may be able to help you out using third party software.

Yeah, I know it's hard to explain.

Correct, win 7 is installed to the drive not password protected. It was my spare drive. My main drive that has everything on it isnt accessable.

Sounds like because you left the password protected drive connected, Windows 7 put some boot files on the password protected drive, when you would have preferred it didn't do that.

You should be able to do a second clean install to the correct drive with pw protected drive disconnected, and then reconnect it and access it. Do a "clean install" not an upgrade.

Your alternative is to wait for someone else to get on this thread and try to get boot files back onto the Win 7 disc.

You need to make the Win7 the first HD in the bios boot order.

Boot the 7 dvd .

Run startup repair 3 times.

What does running the start up repair 3 times do?

It repairs/creates the files needed for the startup process.

It can't do everything at once - so needs 3 runs
