Hi Folks,

A few days ago I tried to boot my PC (a fairly old computer; a Dell Optiplex 755), however the monitor instantly had a black screen before it could make it to the "Starting Windows" area.

Now my suspicion is that the PC has broke down due to forcing it to shut down by unplugging it off my extension wire.

A second assumption is that the monitor cannot pick up the Starting Windows screen due to complications I have had with my monitor. ("i.e: The monitor will turn off even though its plug is on. It has been caused by the wire was bent very crudely and had forced alot of stress to the wire.")
Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot the problem?

Try an alternate boot disk, even a windows 7 install disk and see if you get graphics from that. This could verify a good connection to your monitor. It could be possible that the MBR's are corrupt, but I would think you would be getting an error to confirm this fact. You could also try to enter the BIOS, and this would also confirm that your monitor is functional.

Can you remember what you did immediately before this error came up? Also what anti virus software do you run and is it up to date?

So far, I have replaced my monitor now with a 16:9 aspect ratio rather than my old 4:3 monitor. It has done the same error since then and I am guessing it is a system problem.
