Windows 7, 64 Bit update problem with error code 8024402f

Dear Sir/Madam,

How are you? My Windows 7 update function does not work and shows error code 8024402f. To deal with this problem I followed instructions at URL http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-...4840-windows-update-posting-instructions.html.

1: Firstly, I downloaded System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2014] windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe at URL Download System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [February 2014] from Official Microsoft Download Center. Then, I ran this tool.

2: After that, I ran command "sfc /scannow" in cmd as administrator within folder C:\Windows\System32. The execution finished without problems.

3: As final step I compressed the files in folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. Due to file size I used 7zip to split the archive in two files CBS.zip.001 and CBS.zip.002. But given the file extension restrictions I re-named those files as CBS.zip.001.zip and CBS.zip.002.zip, respectively, and I attached them to this post.

If possible could you please give me some insight to deal with this update error. Thank you very much. Your help is much appreciated.

The reason the files won't upload is probably that they are too large - simply delete the oldest CBSPersist files and try again. Maximum filesize is 8MB
Push comes to shove, all we really need are the CBS.log file, and the CheckSUR.log file (the others are there in case the data has rolled of into the archive before the grab) - compress those, and upload them

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I created a zip archive CBS.zip which is attached to this reply and which contains the following three files:

CBS.log
CheckSUR.log
CheckSUR.persist.log

In this archive I omitted file CbsPersist_20140314235519.cab (15 MB) from the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder. Log file CheckSUR.log does not imply any errors while CBS.log seems to have a problem with the language pack and 'Failed to process single phase execution. [HRESULT = 0x800f0816 - CBS_E_DPX_JOB_STATE_SAVED]'.

Please suggest what I should do next. Thank you very much!

I can see do data from your SFC scan - please run another one, and upload the new CBS.log file.

0x800f0816 errors are common, and can be largely ignored - see the line following each of those errors in the log.

I am a bit confused. Now, suddenly I can run important windows update. Although I didn't run any further diagnostic tools or installed any other programs.

However, at this time I get error code 80244019. For example, I cannot install any optional windows updates, such as language packages. Do you think sfc scan could help in this case? Thanks again.

He suggests checking your router config to see if ActiveX filtering is active. It seems that the updater needs ActiveX. On my router, it was on. I turned it off, and VOILA! updates work perfectly.

I have seen several threads with people NOT being able to solve this problem, like me. I've only seen router config setting as a solution in one place. Since it worked for me, I figured it might help someone else.

I've been banging my head on this one for several days now.
ActiveX filtering switched on in my router (Linkys e4200) was blocking Windows update function and giving me the 8024402f error.
