Solved Windows 7 64-bit won't install

Hey guys,

I've ran into a problem with my "new" rig a while ago. I wanted to install Windows 7 64-bit on it but whenever I tried the setup would load either very long or not at all for no reason. The CD is fine, I used it on my old PC as well with no problem. And it can't be my CPU either cause the E7500 is supposed to be able to handle 64-bit. So what's the problem? Half a year ago when I did the upgrade to my PC I just installed 32-bit in the meantime but now I would really like 64-bit since I'm getting active with gaming again and I could use some boost. Tried to install it 5 min ago but again long loading and eventually not loading anymore at all...

Specs:
Motherboard: MSI G31M3 V2 (MS-7529)
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7500 @ 2.93GHz
Memory: DIMM1: Kingston 2G-UDIMM and DIMM3: A-Data (2 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM)

Did you clean your HD first?

Not this time because I wouldn't want to clean it for nothing... but I did half a year ago and still no result. The CD boots up but after a while just hangs... I'd almost think my system doesn't support 64-bit but that's not the case... and the CD is working fine itself as well. At least on other machines.

Have you tried another DVD Drive? It could be faulty!!

I've tried it both with CD as well as with USB stick...

Check the hard drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic tools.

I've fixed it.

Checked out the site of MSI and downloaded the MSI LiveUpdate 5, scanned my PC and updated my old 2.2 BIOS to 2.8. Now it loaded the cd without breaking a sweat. Writing this off of Windows 7 x64!

Here's some useful information, when you need it.

It may be best to do a complete wipe of the Hard Disk Drive / Solid State Drive and then start the installation process again, have a look at Step One of the Optimize tutorial below; after you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, then boot the Windows 7 installation media to do the wipe secure erase to the HDD / SSD and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

:info: Whether you use diskpart to run either the clean all command to completely wipe a HDD / SSD or just the clean command to remove the format configuration data and don't use diskpart to create at least a single partition to do the installation to, letting the Windows installer do the format, the new Windows 7 System Reserved partition will be automatically issued, if you want to make your own decision whether this partition is added, study these two (2) options below.

• If you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
• If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.

Either way, running the clean all then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.
