Solved Windows 7 64bit sound problem on Asus p7p55d-evo

Hi Guys and gals,

A while back about a year ago I updated my audio drivers once I was done I had Via HD Vdeck as my sound properties panel ( for a lack of what it is really called ) Tonight I was messing around with it to see if I could find someplace on it to adjust my 2 speaker balance from left to right or however it needed to be adjusted. back then I had this panel to control my sounds but nothing I could find for balance.

I went to Asus's website and found a newer driver than I had installed so I installed it, it didn't install and I tried it 3 times. finally I deleted it from my device manager and rebooted and windows found a driver that works fine, by "fine" I mean I can play sounds from my speakers and I can record from my mic.

However I would like the ability to make some adjustments like left to right balance. The task bar icon only shows a volume slider and for some reason a slider for each program open at that time.

Is there a basic sound mixer that works with Windows 7 64 bit, free would be nice

In most (all that I've seen) the vendor's drivers (in this case ASUS) is the preferred driver. If the Via did not install there is some other problem or you downloaded the incorrect version. Check the ASUS site, for your specific motherboard, again as I think there are several versions of the driver available. Try them all to see one will give you what you want.

I have a newer ASUS motherboard but it has RealTek on it so I can't compare.

Some media players have EQ and possibly Left/Right balance controls. There is no 3rd party application that I know of since if it is available its a function of the correct sound driver.

Windows will install the "HD Audio Codec" which is a generic basic function sound driver. It will give you sound but not much more. It doesn't include the Stereo Mix (System Mixer) which is needed to record streaming audio from the internet and missing other enhancements.

Thanks for your help that is what I thought also, the problem is when I installed it a year ago it didn't have the balance slider to adjust the left right balance.

Some do not have the left/right balance adjustment. However, my RealTek does.
