Windows 7 7057 Install Restart Problem

I started installing windows 7 build 7057, (Orbit30) from my bootdisk but for some reason the computer wouldn't boot from the disk so i decided to install it from my HDD into a 2nd partition.
It started installing fine, until i had to restart (currently i have windows 7 build 7000 and vista as two boots) now when ever i turn on the computer, the installer starts, boot logo appears, and the logo stays for about 10-20 mins, and then the installer finally comes up for a split second and then the whole computer restarts... what is there that i can do to fix this, i might be able to get another copy of the 7057 build bootdisk, or i could download 7048, but i'd rather try and fix what i have currently.

I only have access to the bios before the windows 7 installer starts by the way.

Well first welcome aboard the Seven forums and you need the dvd for use of the startup repair option!

The first thing you would need to see done once the Vista or 7000 startup is corrected is simply nuke the 7 primary all together! 7 presently cannot upgrade over an earlier build while it can replace the same build with a repair install saving things in the Windows.old folder.

Once you can boot into Vista you can go into the Disk Management tool there to right click on the 7000 primary assuming that's partition #2 and see that reformatted and ready for the 7057 install from the dvd you burn. That will provide the repair tools as well as a working copy without any Windows loaded even through a virtual mount.

Or you can elect to run the setup while booted in Vista seeing the 7 primary given an E or F drive letter rather booting into it and seeing it as C with Vista as the boot sector. Without changing the default boot order to cd rom look for the F1 or other F key assigned for the boot device menu to save on repeat trips into the bios as well. You simply select the optical drive when going to boot from the dvd.

Unfortunately the system is simply hanging on you for not wiping the 7000 build off first. Once 7 or Vista is running make sure to set Vista as the default OS in order to carry on from there.

i cannot get into the list of options of operating systems to boot from, thats my biggest concern at the moment, also i was going to do the thing where it puts all the old data into a Windows.old folder, seemed like a good idea (i made 12gb of spare data for the install).

What i think has happened is that after getting the copy of windows 7, it has lost files some how (a friend downloaded the iso, burnt it onto a dvd, then made a 2nd iso out of that dvd because he deleted the iso by accident, and the 2nd iso was smaller than the first, although i don't know why).

Some of the lost files could be the boot data or some parts of the installer which it is trying to run but cannot since they cannot be found or something.
I'm going to get the original dvd which worked for my friend in a few days to see how that works, hopefully it fixes the whole problem.

should i even just go straight upto 7077 or abouts? instead of just 7057.

I haven't used 7077, but a lot of folks are saying it is a good build.

FWIW - don't crack Win7 - it is valid for over a year, no point in 'cracking' it since these cracks keep having unforeseen consequences on the OS....

Agreed! The expiration on the 7077 build is 6/1/2010! The copy made from the original burn sounds a bit trashed there!

I think you summed up that one fast. A fresh download and good burn to disk would likely solve all problems. The copy obviously lost integrity as well as some necessary files or simply saw a bad burn.

With the 7077 on at the moment(32bit of course waiting for 64bit) it's running well here with one exception seen before with the exsting tv tuner card. Some games were tossed on already to evaluate how those run compared to the 7000 build in steady use for the last 3 months and so far so good.

One of the main benefits now seen in the 7077 is the larger amount of device drivers listed for more brands when setting up the network adapter or some other hardware. The initial installation of the cable modem on the 7000 build(32bit no go on 64) saw some moments while this one readily weht to work!

I'll still be looking over this one carefully due to the larger size difference being seen. With the x86 that was 2.5gb compared to the 7068's 2.54gb 40mb while this one is 3.04gb compared to the 7068 x64's 3.23gb. That's almost 200mb seen there!

That's just the ISO here are the real size's (notice 7077 is larger) this is 64 bit by the way.

Wirh the same compression ratio you would expect to see that being the same once the iso was complete on the drive which will be shortly since I am presently at 94.5%! In about 14hrs. I;ll be able to confirm that once the new nic card is in and the installation is complete.

Found a spare 8.1 unbuntu bootdisk and managed to boot from that. Got rid of the bugged windows installer files and my old build 7000 data, and managed to boot into vista after restart... was never so happy to see the vista boot screen before
now to get rid of 7 and the installer from the boot list, i'll get the propper working 7057 disk on sunday or something, but should i upgrade to 7077? what are the major benifits of 7077? stability or just bigger driver database?

So far a few of us have noticed a small increase in drivers included in this build. It may take a few days to find out things about the 64bit 7077 while some are wondering about going back to the 7068 for various reasons.

And yes some favored the 7057 over the 7068! So far the 32bit 7077 is working out here except for a repeat problem seen with a tv tuner card in use here on both 7077s while the 7000 64bit saw that working well! A few installs later the 32bit 700o saw that work.

The one thing to remember is up until now everything has been in beta form where we are going to be seeing the RC escrows followed by the RC1 in May hopefully made public like the 7000 there. The advantage of the 7077 right off however is seeing the expiration as 6/1/2010 over the previous builds months earlier for any long time run.

Your circumstances like hardware combination, programs run, and a few other things are what will often determine which build appears more stable until the RC1. By then most of the bugs and features will have been worked heading towards the RTM.

isn't the 7057 build expiry date the first of march 2010 or something? so going to 7077 would only be another couple of months.

That's a few extra months to consider if you haven't already upgraded to a newer build like the RC1 or bought the retail release. Remember all these are only temporary to begin with. 7 is something you place on a spare partition or drive not intended at this point as the main OS while many(actually most) have it set that way.
