Windows 7 7068 - Task Bar

No one has mentioned the change in IE with the new task bar in build 7068. I personally like it. That i can click on the ie icon on the left and get a new IE window where as before i had to right click and select open IE.

Any other new things found in this new build? I am looking more for new things such as that vs a bug report.

I can't figure out what you're describing. The taskbar has always had IE there. If you left click it it opens. Right click and it brings up the "jump menu" where you have been before or pinned to the jump menu. I don't think it's changed. Am I missing something?

well the change is that yes it has always been there, but when you launched a new iexplorer window, it would just place them in the same icon you are talkiing about. With the new build, it now puts a new one with the open IE sessions off to the right, that way you dont have to right click to get a new IE window open. Surely i am not the only one to notice this change.

I can't see what's different from build 7000 click the icon, iexplorer opens up click it again it minimises & again it maximises. It's supposed to do that. Other versions of windows would open extra sessions with each click of the icon (or so i can remember, i might be wrong). Yes if you right-click & select internet explorer it'll open up a new session but why would you do that when you can click the new tab button...

It may be a setting. "combine when taskbar is full" is what I use and it does not do this. I tried it with the other settings and it still does not do that. I don't know how to make it do that. The first thing I do with all builds is use "only combine when taskbar is full"

It's never been there (on any of my installs, 7000, 7022, 7048, 7057 & now 7068). Always stays on the far left, unless unpinned from taskbar and moved to the left right hand side, but have just tried it & it still only opens within the same (overlapping) icon.

well i have been using Windows 7 since it was just in Beta and that has never been like that. I guess you guys dont use IE or you dont notice small things. It is a small change, but a good one that was well needed. I open 5-6 or more IE windows and before this new build, it was pretty difficult to have to right click to open a new IE window if you needed that.

Paul Thurott even wrote about this in his blog, so surely i can be the only one to notice this. I have installed windows 7 the 64 bit on my work computer, and i have installed it on about 10 other computers, it was never like that before build 7068. I will post 2 screen shots, the old build way of placing the icons and the new one.

i dont see how that comes up for you... iv been using it sense prebeta and ie with tons of tabs and it never does that for me

Check it out and let me know. My new task bar thing is much easier to use now, if it is a fluke, i like it.

I see what you mean. That IS nice. Can you remember changing the setting that would have done that? I think it would be nice. You can do it by setting up a "real" quick launch. But it's a pain and requires registry editing (i think) You can get a quick launch going really easy but it's on the right side by the tray. Let us know if you figure it out.

man i didnt do anything. The only thing i did was upgrade from 7057 which was a fresh install. Now that you are all saying that i must have a fluke set up, i hope Microsoft can make that the default. It is much easier to pop up a new IE session.

Sorry - it was like that after the upgrade and i have been happy about it, and noticed no one was talking about that.

That's right, someone may have made the mod before seeding it. That's probably it. You can find tutorials on how to do it.
