windows 7 activation

Hi all,

I have a pc with windows 7 installed.
I own a genuine windows 7 dvd.

My wife has a laptop and would like me to install windows 7 on it as she is not keen on winxp.
Would I be ok installing on her laptop or is this not legal?

simple question but I don't know the answer....

1 liscence key for one PC.

If this is a retail version of Windows 7.... The key can be uninstalled from one PC, and installed on another PC.

If this is an OEM version of Windows 7... You are pretty much locked down to the PC you installed it on. You cannot interchange the liscence key.

To answer your question... It would be illegal to install one Windows key on 2 different PC's.

You can install it, but you will need to purchase an additional key in order to activate it...You can use it on her laptop for 30 days while you get a new key, but then you have to activate it to continue using it...
