hi, i have windows 7 installed on my computer and i decided to install ubuntu 9.10 karmic koala alongside it. it has its own partition and everything and worked fine with the grub beta bootloader. however, apparently i was just too stubborn so i reinstalled the windows 7 boot loader cuz i find it easier on the eyes... don't ask...:(

so anyway, now the computer doesn't seem to realize that ubuntu is even installed so it doesn't appear as an option in the bootloader. i've tried to set up ubuntu to boot using easybdc but it only supports grub and not grub 2 or grub beta or anything...

would really appreciate any help cuz this is a really important computer... the ubuntu partition i mean.
please help!!!

Hello vswee, and welcome to Windows Seven forums!

Are you not wanting to reinstall Grub?

Cheers!
Robert

If you are using EasyBCD 2.0, it will set it up using neo grub. Unless you possibly have the 100 mb System Reserved Partition in Win 7. If you have that partition, you will probably have to give it a drive letter.

So it seems you have a dualboot and not a wubi install and you need grub2 back, this link should do it step 11 is what your looking for. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2#Upgrading

oh my gosh, wee! you saved my computer! i reinstalled grub from the live cd and i've got my dual boot back!! woot! woot! great advice!

Cool I am mainly a Linux user and acquired W7 through a student upgrade, but I like W7 it is a usable OS. Most people who dual boot MS and open source let grub or a nix boot-manager do the work.

The EasyBCD 2.0 beta has an option for Grub 2, but I have not tried it.

Edit: I suppose I should add I noticed that this edition of Ubuntu has starting using partition numbers like Windows. The first partition is now 1 instead of 0. The Drives still stay 0 for the first one.
