Since my laptop is kinda low end, and I wanted to play Starcraft1, I wanted to dual boot it with XP. My laptop came with windows vista and i upgraded to windows 7.

so to start out i made a partition of 50 gigs called "windows xp" from windows 7. then i restarted my pc, and put the disc in and booted up xp installation, selected the partition called "windows xp" and made sure it was 50 gigs, chose quick format, and it started formatting, after that it restarted, and came up to the screen that looks a bit nicer than the once before, but after about 10 seconds my pc powers down.

my craptop gets EXTREMELY hot sometimes, but i have it on a laptop cooling stand and have fan blowing on it and made sure it was cool the entire time it was installing

okay, so next i pop in super grub boot disk to try to see if i can get back into windows 7. i've only used it twice before, and it worked fine, but this time it keeps trying to repair the xp installation instead of the windows 7 installation...

i don't really want to give up installing xp, my pc can barely handle 7 without melting itself (not really, but it gets super hot around where the graphics card is at, even with aero off)

just kinda wondering what i should do to get xp working on it... :/

okay, so i got windows 7 back up by repairing it with installation disc...

i'll check the ram and hard drive now..

EDIT: checked the ram, no messages popped up after it completed so i assume it's okay, and windows 7 runs fine.. i didn't check the hard drive because 7 runs fine

okay, i'll try it one last time, this time without formatting..

EDIT: nope, still doesn't work.. but i tried it about 4 or 5 times and twice i got 2 different error messages before shutting down, the rest of the time it just shut down

the first time it was a short message, but it shut down to fast for me to read it

the second time it was a longer one, it was something about windows not being able to start because but it went off to fast for me to read it, i just got a glance

EDIT 2: i tried using another xp disc, but that one just freezes up at "inspecting hardware configuration" and doesn't do anything. i tried booting up the second disc after i tried installing the first, but it still just shuts down..

At exactly what point in install does it error?

Try again and get camera snaps of the error messages to post back - be ready with camera.

You can install most XP programs in Win7 Compatibility Mode

Or you can virtualize XP from Win7 using XP Mode in Ultimate or Pro, or other freeware like Virtual Box, VMWare and Virtual Player.

you can't play old games like startcaft 1 in windows 7. :( it's screws up the colors.. and my pc barely has enough power to run win7 and i was hoping to get some speed back by downgrading... and right now my fix for startcraft is virtualbox, but the rest of my pc is still pretty slow..

it errors about 10 seconds after it actually starts "installing"... when it loads graphics for the first time.. the error is to fast for a camera, its just flashes really quick, and sometimes not at all..
