Windows 7 and XP Dual Boot Issue

Is the following also a problem for a dual boot XP/Windows 7 system?

No restore points are available when you use Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 in a dual-boot configuration together with an earlier Windows operating system

My current plans are to install XP first (full retail Pro version), then install Windows 7 Pro upgrade in another partition.

I would not use either System Restore or the built-in backup, and that likely eliminates the issue of shadow copies.

Yes, the message simply means that System Restore won't function, but it wont mess anything up besides disabling that feature.

Yes, unfortunately XP will also wipe out Windows 7 restore points everytime XP is started. You can use the same tutorial below to stop XP from wiping them out in Windows 7. Just substitute Windows 7 for Vista in the steps.

That article raises another question.

One post states that Vista has to be installed before XP.
I thought that one could do it either way using, I think, EASYBCD, or something like that.

Can XP be installed first, that's the normal order, then put Vista or Windows 7 in a separate partition?

Is the restore point an issue wity hdual boot Vista and Windows 7 systems?

You can install either Vista or XP first for a dual boot with them. It does not matter, but it's a bit more work if you install XP second though.

I intended to install XP first, but could install Windows 7 first if necessary.

Since I want to retain XP and install a Windows 7 Upgrade in a clean partition, it was stated that I might have to install Win 7 first. Both are Pro edition, and both are retail versions.

You can install either one first, but it would still be easier to install XP first.
