Windows 7 Asus Laptop Computer Reinstall Question

Have an old asus u45jc-a1 laptop. It has been complete reinstalled a while back. Im using it now for very little since i have a main computer. I wanted to know, do i need to have the asus operating CDs in order to do a complete reformat of my asus laptop?


Because at the moment, i don't know where the CDs are. But could i do this without the CDs? Or would i still need a windows 7 key? But that should be in the bottom of my laptop in the sticker right? Just want to make sure if i need the cds or not. I recalled i had 2 CDs. One was the asus windows 7 CD and the other was the asus utilities cd where you install drivers and webcams etc...

You might have a recovery partition, post a full shot of Disk Management

The faster you reply, the faster we can help.

You do not need the Asus disc, but the key on your COA has to be readable so you can activate windows.

Tell us what version of windows is listed on your COA and whether you want 32 or 64 bit and I`ll post a download link.

If you reinstalled windows yourself awhile ago without the Asus disc, and used the COA key, then we can use the current windows key to reactivate, use Speccy to find the key, it`s on the Operating System tab and will be called Serial Number

If your COA is readable, then don`t worry about using Speccy.

I checked bottom of laptop and the stickers on it are readable.


Windows 7 Home Premium Edition. It doesn't say on sticker but its 64 bit.


The last time i did the complete reinstall of windows 7... i do not remember if i used the CD or not. Is that a big deal? The other thing though is the last time i did the reinstall of windows 7... i didn't erase everything off laptop. It still was sort of there in hard drive if you know what i mean. Is there anything else you need to know? In the back, i see my product key. Is that the key you need? I also see a few other numbers/keys but not sure what they are. But everything on the sticker is visible.

Above product key... theres a long barcode... theres a XXXXX-XXX-XXX-XXX number above that.


And above this... theres a 12 digit/letter on it. Its a mix of numbers and letters.


Is that what is needed?

IF your going to use a non Asus set of discs when you come to activate it you will HAVE to use the code on the sticker. it will be the 5 blocks of 5 (alpha/numeric characters).

The 2 cds i had... both were from ASUS. One is the windows 7 reinstall from asus... other is the asus driver and utility.

Did you download the iso file yet ???????????

If you start a thread please stick with it and give prompt replies, we are trying to help you.

If you delete that entire drive to unallocated space and create a partition out of the entire drive, you won`t get the useless System Reserved partition.

All can be done with Diskpart, but much easier with a Partition Wizard Boot CD.

hi there. thanks for the reply. I also noticed something else that i didnt mention earlier. I had downloaded a file called windows 7 usb dvd download tool thats on the asus laptop. I also have a copy of it in my usb. A while back i recalled someone told me to download it then save it to usb... and I think the person said if u want to format it... thats it. So could that be it? Im pretty sure thats the iso file. It was a link that was here on sevenforums.

The dvd download tool is just that a tool, nothing more.

I posted a link to download the iso file you need way back in post #6 over an hour ago.
