Windows 7 will be ready a bit early, according to an executive at the world's third-largest PC maker, Acer.

On Thursday Acer UK marketing director Bobby Watkins told tech blog Pocket-lint.com to expect the new operating system by fall:

"23rd October is the date the Windows 7 will be available. There is a 30 day upgrade time so that customers don't wait to buy a new computer, so if you buy during that 30 day period, you'll get a free upgrade to Windows 7," Watkins is quoted as saying.

That's also the day Acer will release its Z5600 PC, an all-in-one desktop built specifically around Windows 7 features.

Microsoft has previously stated that the final version of Windows 7 won't be ready until January 2010. The first release candidate of the new operating system will be available Thursday to some developers and to the public next week.

That is true. I am sure they will give the official version to the companies making the computers a little early just to make sure everything still runs as it should from testing it on the RC release.

But really I hope since they still have about 5 1/2 months to go I really would like to see greater improvements in speed with boot up and overall just more smooth.

Yeah it is amazing now, but never can be fast enough lol :)

I would love to see the day that as soon as you see your desktop from a fresh boot up it is ready to use the same way it responds as if you had it running for a while. I have yet to see any computer do that, but I have not been around computers with tons of ram and super fast CPU's. I am happy to say Windows 7 seems to be the fastest at doing so however!

A solid state drive or two will do this...

Ya but SSD's are still a little flakey, not all the kinks have been worked out, and they arn't as fast as they should be yet. Realistically they should be as fast as DDR2 or 3 since the technology is sort of the same!!!! (yes there are also major differences but I am not getting into it for less computer literate people) The cost is way way way too high for its speed when a $300, 300GB Velociraptor preforms almost identical to a $700 150GB SSD! The only advantage would be quieter computing.

Back to the topic: That means MS has 5.5 months to F it up! 7100 already has F'd up some games and apps that worked on previous builds. Go F'n Microsoft for messing up something that works. If it aint broke, dont fix it.
