Windows 7 backup won't stop

My laptop won't stop trying to do a backup (it's the first backup ever on this laptop) - for the last couple days the little flag in the system tray keeps coming up, after a minute or so of starting up my laptop, saying it's doing a backup (which is slowing it down incredibly). But when click on the backup message and try to open it, it opens up the box which only comes up with the title "backup and restore" and nothing else appears so I can't stop it that way. Even when I go into control panel to try and open it that way, it's the same.

I've also gone into services and disabled it that way, but this hasn't worked either. I've also tried the "SFC /Scannow" method but it also doesn't work - the black command box flashes up for a second and disappears immediately every time I've tried it.

I'm not that great with computers so I have no idea what to try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hopefully this may help if you havent tried this already?:


One way to stop this loop is to actually start another backup, and when that backup starts, a stop button will appear. Click on the stop button and you should be rid of the loop.

Or you could try a system restore to before the issue started:

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
