Windows 7 BETA in December....

Good news for everyone who cannot wait to get their hands on the upcoming Microsoft operating system. According to Mary-Jo Foley at ZDnet Microsoft is planning to run a public beta test of Windows 7 beta 1 at the end of this year. It was rumored that participants of Microsoft’s two developer conferences in October and November (Professional Developers Conference (PDC) Windows Hardware Engineering Conference (WinHEC)) would be the first to receive beta versions of the Windows 7 operating system. The most likely scenario would be that participants of the conferences will receive a preview build of Windows 7, a beta beta probably.

It is not yet known how the public Windows 7 beta will be delivered to the public. Rumors are that Microsoft will use the Microsoft Connect service to administrate the test and signup beta testers. Good news is there will be a public beta of Windows 7 pretty soon. Question is, will you install it or wait for the release candidates or final release instead?

I would certainly like to try it out. Despite my earlier reservations that Windows 7 might be just Vista SP3, what I've read on these forums makes me conclude I'm wrong.

M1 could be dual booted. I just hope this is a proper install, not an upgrade which required me to install vista on another partition and then upgrade to Windows 7, like M1 and M2.
Can't wait, I had Vista B2 and that was pretty much close to the final build. Had a fair few bugs, but I didn't mind..

I'm already tri-booting Vista, Ubuntu and Opensuse 11. I'm running out of hard drives.... lol. I would be happy to ditch Opensuse 11.0 though. I never use it, but I do like the Grub menu

Seriously though, I just wondered if installing a beta wouldn't wreck the MBR, Grub loader etc. Mainly because it is a 'beta'.

That's what I was worried about. Although I should be able to repair grub afterwards. PITA that it can sometimes be.

Windows 7 Milestone 1 (or Windows 7 M 1) code drop build version number 6.1.6519.1 (6519.1.071220-1525) has been released since January 2008 in both x86 and x64 versions, is now leaked for free BT (BitTorrent) torrent download.
