Afternoon Everyone,
I am running windows 7 home prem. OA, on a two month old Acer Aspire. I don't know if anything had been changed or adjusted or loaded. My 12 year old son was doing homework on it, and was the last person to use it before this problem appeared. Later I went to get on the computer and it was locked up and thinking hard, with several windows open. I tried to shut down some of the programs, the computer was sluggish, so I tryed a ctrl, alt, delete for some options. When the task manager wouldn't open, I resorted to a forced shut down.
Upon starting it back up it locked in a black screen just before the welcome screen should have come up. I have tried allowing windows to fix the start up errors, and opening in safe mode, with the same black screen results.
Any one have any idea what this is or how to fix it?
Thanks
C Mike

Hey Richard,

I couldn't do a clean boot, I can't get into the system configurator. I also couldn't get to a system restore point. After opening advance boot options, highlighting and hitting enter for "fix my computer," my screen went to a windows is loading files screen and bar, then to the microsoft corp. screen with a loading bar, and then locking on a black screen.

I'm sorry Richard, still no luck. I will gladly try any other ideas you may have but I can't seem to get by this black screen. I don't have a disc, the computer came loaded from Acer.

On another computer download this repair DVD
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/2083-system-repair-disc-create.html
Boot from the DVD

When the "Install Now" screen will appear , click on reapir .... choose startup repair form the repair options . Run it three separate times with restarts . It will add the missing bootloader . You need not to get into windows for it .

Evening Richard,

I made a DVD iso from the link you provided. Thank you, I hate to mension it but I can't get my system to boot from the disc. I went in and adjusted the bio's for DVD/CD boot to be the first priority, saved my setting, and tryied starting windows. I tried both ways with a regular start up and three times in a row with a repair start up. I'm keep getting the same results. Any more thought sir?

Thank you
C Michael

The next thing, but you lose everything on your computer, is to restore to factory specs. It means exactly what it says, like day one. Everything that you did, since you bought the puter is gone. The method is in your computer manual or you can find it online. Usually you press a certain fkey (usually f11 during boot). If you cant't find it, give my computer make and model and maybe I can. Take care, Im sorry about all your problems.

Richard,

Thanks for all the help. I am running an Acer Aspire 5251. The key is alt+f10 or f-10. However apparently my file have been corrupted making this option usless. The boot disc link you provided me with will not work either, Acer installs some driver making my copy of Windows 7 "unique." I can purchase this unique software for $20.00, + the shipping cost of my choice. This software is not downloadable, it must be shipped?!? I appreaciate you time helping me. I just may go buy another computer today, other than Acer, I am quite upset with their company. And while I understand I could have saved myself this head ache by making a back up disc right away, I think it is bs that the fix I need is unobtainable except from them! Have a great weekend.

Thanks again
C Michael

MBR repair/replace

Sounds like your Master Boot Record is currupted. If you can't do the conventional methods to fix it you will need to go expert ways. One way, conventional, is it to boot from any install CD/DVD that's the same as the version you have and "Repair". If you don't have one you can download one from:
http://www.demonoid.me

Directions:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html

If that dont work you will have to manually replace the files. To do that you will need to attach that computer's hard drive to another computer and search for the folder with the mbr files. I can't remember off the top of my head where it is but I will post it tonight where.
