Hi guys, I currently have a laptop with a problem.
I have tried searching google but the problem seems to be a bit different than all the ones I found.

When I turn on the laptop, it loads as normal, to which I can go to bios, etc, but once the page is passed, the laptop turns to a black screen, and in the top left corner the white _ flashes once, and then that is it, I cannot get passed this point.

I have tried loading up in recovery etc, but the same thing happens, and will not pass the black screen.

I will run a windows disc tonight and see if it will accept that, but for now I am stuck at work so I am just wondering if there are any other solutions that may get me passed this screen in advance.

Thank you :)

----------------------------------------------------------------

Just as an update, I left it on the blank screen and kept checking back, and after about an hour it went to the home screen and seem to work fine from there.

I restarted to see what happens and I am at the black screen again.

Is there any tests I can do once it loads up again.

Thanks

Hi Harlem,

I understand that system is working fine at the moment. However, you can check the below link which might be useful if this problem happens in future as well.

Also, update your system specs here by following this.

Hi, I post this comment for all Acer Aspire users that have a black screen after booting up their laptop with Windows 7 / 64bit.
Situation:
1. Startup laptop you (might) see the Acer logo and after that the screen goes black. System appears to work fine exept the display is black.
Sometimes you get to the logon screen and (after logging in) it goes black.
2. You put down the lid and the sytem goes to sleep/hybernation
Opening the lid you only see a black screen.
When there was a white aerea open you can sometimes see the screen is working.
3. periodicly the system shuts down unexpected before these problems appear.

Resolution:
Because your battery is getting faulty somehow it messed up Acer powermanagement. your laptop already had problems and so now and then it shuts down unexpectedly.
What i did to resolve:
Shut down the laptop by pushing the on/off twice for a second and wait 5 min. it should have shut down the way it belongs to.
Will that not happen hold down the on/off button for 10 sec. The system shuts down.
Remove powercord and remove the battery.
Connect the powercord and let the laptop like this for a while.
The bios battery could be near empty and gets a chance to load.
1 of the problems the pc shuts down, on youtube you can also find instructions how to replace your bios battery.
Problem 2 is that your battery is faulty and need a replacement, so leave it out of the system.
Startup the laptop and wait for 5 min.
Get a DVI cable from your TV or Beamer and plug it in your laptop.
In most situations you will see the laptop booted fine.
(check to use the correct channel on your TV!)
in some times removing the DVI will get you back your display, but that is temerarely.
Log in to the system
Go to Start>run>CMD on the commandprompt type:
powercfg -restoredefaultschemes
Go to Start>run>msconfig
Select the startup tab and remove the V at Asuspowermanagement
Click ok and reboot the laptop.
The laptop can be slower than normal now with starting up and shutting down.
After reboot log in and test if it worked. Remove the DVI cable.
Your laptop screen should be available.
Test if it works by closing the lid, wait until your laptop is in standby mode and open the lid again.
Your screeen should be there.
log in
Go to acer.com select country, go to drivers and manuals.
search for your product model
While your there download the newest bios version (update with windows)
go to the application tab and download ePower Management
After download run the setup it will say software removed
Run it again and the new version will install
update your bios
Reboot your system (still without battery) and see if it all works again.
Startup, hybernation etc. should work fine.
Screen will nog go black anymore.
If your always using your laptop with the power cord, just leave out te battery. Otherwise, replace or recalibrate your battery.
How to recalibrate your battery search google. you will find Acer instructions on the website.

Good luck!
Worked for me.
