Windows 7 boot SSD now in RAW format! "missing operating system"

Hi,
I am a newbie here, so apologies for the long post.

My PC recently went into hibernation mode, and soon after i restarted windows noticed sector errors and fixed them. HOWEVER, since then it will not start windows, and now it tells me "missing operating system"

I can access the motherboard boot screen and see all of the drives(including disc drive), i have used the command prompt and can see that all the drives are active, however the SSD boot drive is not NTFS but RAW.

I have tried using my windows 7(ultimate) backup disc & a windows 7(Home premium) install disc, but both will not let me access windows, without a fresh install.

Could this be as simple as the driver for the SSD is no longer on the PC?, and i now need to source it and install it?, or is it likely that the drive is ruined?

I have a NAS which has the windows backup's stored on there, however the PC will not let me access the NAS without installing Windows, can i install the Home premium version on a new SSD and restore the ultimate from my NAS backup once the windows install is complete?

In addition is there any way to rescue the data on the corrupt SDD?, or to reuse the SSD etc etc.

Sorry for all the questions, but hopefully someone can help!

Hello and welcome Stefan mate to retrieve the data take a look at this to do that there will be some that cannot be accessed but because it is running in a non Windows OS but usually one can get the best part of what you want.
BOOTABLE UBUNTU
Make a bootable Ubuntu disk Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu
Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY not INSTALL
When it is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in the pic .
Open the drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the data / settings you may be able to copy / paste the material you want to an external source or other installed drive doing this.
I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.

There is this too and it can be used in the same way and you can try running the Linux OS from within the stick - if you would like to try that

My Ubunutu method is easier I find at least. Then we can start looking at the issue with the SSD.

ICIT2LOL,

Thank you for your help,

I have tried the UBUNTU option, and unfortunately it cannot see the faulty drive:confused:, I am in the process of creating the mint mate USB drive, so I will give that a go once it is completed.

Thank you again for your help, I will keep you posted with developments.

P.S Ubuntu seems really good, I have only ever used Windows, but if things continue the way they are going I could see Ubuntu going on permanently:p.

Ok Stefan I am actually using Linux Mint MATE installed on my secondary laptop - have used it before and trying to get used to using it when support runs out for Windows 7. It takes a bit of getting used to but it is free and comes with a heap of bundled free software like Libre Office - every bit a good as the M$ product.

Anyway try using the stick method of running Linux and see for yourself. Having said that Ubuntu is really good too and what I did was to remove and keep the drive with Windows on it and install the Unix based systems on a new drive to avoid any conflicts. There are also many variations of that system because it is open source there are those who get hold of a ready made one and improve/change it to make another setup.

Spinners are quite cheap these days and even so are SSD's and I would suggest a 250GB SSD as a starting point because if you do like the Ubuntu then it is only a matter of cloning the smaller drive to a larger one;)

https://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html use the free edition and right click on the RAW partition and see what is there have attached a pic to let you know what the screen should look like.
