I have a Sony laptop I had windows 7 on here before useing the same purchased disk. I did the normal format throught the disk as usual and during the install of it it, I did not notice the power cord came out and the battery was low and it died so now i get that error message and cant do anything. I tried my vista disk I tried my xp disk and my server 2k and had no luck I am not happy with what I have read online about it being easy if there is an op already on the drive but mine is a 100% formated 500gb hd and I can only get to the extracting part of the install and it says to check everything and start over what else can I check ................

Hello ragcchunt, welcome to Seven Forums!

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save; you will need to do a wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive, then use the outline in Step Two #2 to create a single 100GB partition to install Windows 7 to, later the rest of the HDD unallocated space can be added to the OS partition, if you choose; have a look at this info below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

   Information

After you have made backups of everything you care to save and you want to do a real wipe "clean all" to the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) have a look at this tutorial at the link below, it over-writes everything, all the old Windows code including all the old Windows drivers, giving you the best possible space to install Windows 7 to; it goes hand-in-hand with a clean install.
