Windows 7 breaks Amazon records

Windows 7 has overtaken Harry Potter novels and the Nintendo Wii to become the biggest grossing pre-order product of all time in the UK, according to e-commerce giant Amazon.

In an announcement which will be music to Microsoft's ears, Amazon.co.uk declared that the new operating system sold more pre-order copies in the first eight hours of its release than Vista did in its entire pre-order period.

Microsoft must be pleased with this after the Vista's poor rep. Especially when it launched.

Only now in retrospect can one see how smart it was to do a wide beta and RC release.. not only did Microsoft get the much needed telemetry to build a better RTM, they seem to have got a great many people hooked to a Windows release that offers both *eye-candy* and stability, coupled with speed and reliability.

I have had a near perfect experience with Seven RTM. I hope all these people will enjoy it too.

Went to Amazon to see 4 myself. The best selling item is the 7 Home Premium Family Pack. Some really smart buyers out there.

Totally agree. It was a smart way of "advertising" in a way. Like the thinking behind free samples at the supermarket. Microsoft gave everybody a taste and people are loving it and coming back to get it.

I have been rocking the RTM since dl'ing from MSDN site in Aug...have been running a dual boot Vista/XP for the longest time and mainly was using XP exclusively...still have XP but haven't touched since installing 7.
It is a great OS for me...the speed and ease of use if awesome and am ditching XP all together!!!:D

What I meant here, paisan, is value for money. You get to upgrade 3 computers running older versions of Windows for $150, that's 50 bucks per computer.

Unfortunately, this offer is not available for us in Croatia.

Home Premium is better than Vista Home Premium - you can do a full backup, you have Media Center, all you need. Ultimate has all the stuff, but the difference in price is too big to make it a reasonable buy for an average user.
