Hi,

I'd like help debugging a BSOD after waking from standby.

Here are my specifics:
- Windows 7 x64
- Fresh HDD install (no original OS on HDD)
- OEM version purchased and installed by me
- New PC build (1 month old)
o Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Motherboard - Intel H55, LGA1156, Micro ATX, Audio, Video, PCI Express 2.0, LAN, USB 2.0
o Intel Core i3 540 Processor BX80616I3540 - 3.06GHz, LGA 1156, 4MB L3 Cache, Dual-Core, Retail Processor w/ Fan

- Runs stable other than BSOD after waking from standby

Additional Notes:
If OS boots and no applications are open the BSOD does not appear to happen, however, if a application is open and system goes to standby, the BSOD occurs during the wake up process.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
First Perform system file checker:
Right click Command Prompt → run as admin → sfc /scannow

Then your dmp bugcheck KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (7a).
Typically caused by a bad block in the paging file or disk controller error.
So I suggest you to test your Harddrive:
1] Command Prompt (as administrator) → chkdsk /f /r
2] Use WDC Data LifeGuard tools → EXTENDED TEST

And update your Realtek NIC driver:
Rt64win7.sys Thu Feb 26 01:04:13 2009 → Realtek

Hi, Sorry this took so long (was on holiday vacation!). I ran the disk drive tests today and no errors were detected. According to Windows, the current NIC driver is the best (I guess no newer available?).

I went into the BIOS and changed the SATA interface from AHCI to IDE. After rebooting, Windows updated the drive controller driver. Maybe this will address the BSOD crash? I will monitor the situation and post any new status updates good or bad.

Your thoughts, comments or suggestions are welcome.

Thx.

Hi, Rj. Thanks for the update. Your dumps indicate memory corruption. Out of date drivers can caiuse memoery corruption and BSOD's. Update this driver:
Rt64win7.sys Thu Feb 26 04:04:13 2009 - Realtek 8101E/8168/8169 Network Driver Interface Specification 6.20 64-bit Driver. Latest PCIe GBE (GigaBit Ethernet) drivers here: Realtek.
See if this helps your system.

Hi Carl, Based on your recommendation I updated the Realtek driver. I also updated the BIOS from F5 to F7 and then reverted the BIOS back to AHCI (after doing some research on AHCI vs IDE). Normally I like to make a single change at a time but made an exception. I'll provide update after running the system and observing behavior.

Again, your thoughts, comments or recommendations are welcome.

Thx.

Hi Carl,

Well, I ran some tests (had several applications open and forced into sleep) and system generated a BSOD after waking from sleep. I can package the dump if you think it is valuable.

Just to summarize:
- Updated Realtek driver
- Updated BIOS to F7
- Ran the disk tests you suggested and no errors were reported.

Is there is a BIOS setting that needs to be adjusted?

Btw, the drive makes a unusual sound (makes me a bit uncomfortable) when initially booting and waking from sleep.

Any advice or suggestion or comments are welcome.

Br,
-Rj
