I installed a student version of Windows 7 via student discounts about a month ago. At first, everything seemed to work fine, but now a flurry of bugs are present in my computer. Here is a breakdown of few of the many bugs:

1) Windows Explorer hangs or simply doesn't ever respond.

2) Icons in Windows Explorer don't show up at all. If I restart the computer or refresh icons, the problem returns again.

2) Windows Explorer Preview Pane refuses to work

3) I can't access My Properties in Windows Explorer

4) Microsoft Office Word hangs about every 1/10 openings. When i click restart program, all I'm left with is a white, non-responsive window that cant close even with task manager.

5) My Computer or any other explorer window will never load. The progress bar keeps going on and on.

Now, an interesting thing to note about the windows explorer bugs is that whenever I access my files a different route other than My Documents or My Computer (like going to Windows Live SkyDrive or sending files in Messenger), everything seems to work fine.

I really need help with all of these problems. I've scoured the internet and cant find a solution to some of these problems.

Have you run system file checker from a command prompt:

sfc /scannow

Have you tried repair installs of Word?

Have you done recent scans for malware and viruses using programs such as Malware Bytes, Microsoft Security Essentials, etc?

Anything interesting in Task Manager when Word hangs?

Ok,, seriously,, these are not Bugs,, they are problems that are specific to you.

Just because you are having problems does not constitute Windows 7 Bugs. There is a huge difference.

try what ignatzatsonic stated above.

sfc /scannow

Scan for viruses etc. as mentioned above.

I would respectfully request you change your title as it is very misleading and in fact absolutely NOT true

I am sorry that you are experiencing problems with your Windows 7. Allow me to assure you the situation that you are experiencing are not the norm, but rather related to your specific installation.

Allow me to assure you, if you give me and the other members of Seven the opportunity to help you, most if not all your problems will be rectified. My statement is not an idle wish but based on the results as experienced by thousands of satisifed members, the knowledge and expertise of our Adminsitrators and members, the complete library of tutorials that are at your disposal and of course I will help you in any way that I can. Now lets get started.

Did you upgrade or perform a clean install (if you had to reinstall your programs it was an upgrade), if so you must perform a clean install.

Did you from an administrators account with elevated privileges run the sfc /scannow command from a cmd prompt. Type cmd in search, right click and run as administrator then type the command. If it does not work at first try several times, it can be lazy, since it does not fix everything at once.

If that does not work, we will talk about a repair install. There is much that we can and will do for you; just give us the opportunity.

Good luck and hope that things work out.

Richard

I'm new to seven forums, so im not sure how to change the title, and I'm sorry if it is misleading or if it's in the wrong category.

I've already tried the sfc /scannow on cmd prompt, and that didnt work, and I ran all of them in admin account.

I have an HP m9360f Pavilion Elite Desktop (2 X 500GB HDD) with Vista Home preinstalled. I purchased the student discount upgrade from Microsoft and did a clean installation (dual boot) Windows 7 about a month ago.

I have Norton 360 installed and Webroot Internet Security Complete Beta. I ran scans and nothing came up.

I am using build 7600.

I have tried to repair word using the Microsoft Office Diagnostics, and nothing got repaired. I never really checked task manager for anything going on (I can't really tell anything apart in the services part).

Also, another thing, the control panel only shows a blank screen. When explorer hangs, I can't open my personal folder or My Computer by clicking on it. Usually i have to open a file on the desktop (if explorer responds again) to access files on my hard drive

I've certainly experienced this one on my work laptop running 7 Enterprise 32-bit. Happens more often than not when I try to access a USB drive or my CD/DVD drives. My desktop at home and my work desktop (both running 64-bit) do not seem to have this issue.

Clearly I have yet to find a solution to this issue, or I would have offered some advice.
