Windows 7 build 6956 on my lappy HP 6720

I am amazed I have never seen windows install so completely all drivers perfect!!
Well almost, IE. is very buggy and slower than normal

It didn't want to know my desktop though, something about the drive for the install not being bootable??

Can ya be a bit more specific? What *Exactly* are the error messages stating?

Perhaps you mean your install DVD would not boot from the Vista desktop automatically??
You would need to run setup direct from the dvd if that was the problem.

This problem is probably self made.
I have an Asus mobo set up for raid 0 with two 250gig discs, I also have a third disk that would have been unused as the mobo allows only for raid or a normal setup not both.
My answer was to make a "bodged" raid 0 with only this one disc this works very well under Vista and gives me needed space for backups.
I did not want to dual boot so I have tried to install on this "single disc" raid 0.
The install started as would be expected, I installed the raid drivers and windows could see the single raid array (I disconnected the working array as I do not want any connection.)
When I tried to install onto this drive the first time, I got the message that windows would not install as the drive was probably not bootable.
When I just tried to replicate the problem to get the exact message I got a different message "Windows could not determine if this computer contains a valid system volume"
Either way I don't come any further, this is however not a great problem as I dont want to do anything that will break the working array.

Try deleting the partition from the 'single' raid and then see if it works. You might want to boot into the other OS and run EasyBCD to remove any remnants of W7 that it might have already placed there....

Also, have you verified if there is a BIOS update that might allow the mobo to run both RAID and non RAID drives?

I've already tried deleting and formatting the "single raid" it makes no difference.

There is no way I know to make a sata raid and non raid. It appears to be the latest thinking from asus; That you will only want to use one or the other (WRONG!!)

The only way I know that might work would be to swap an optical device for an IDE. Not so sure that I am ready to do this.

Nice idea with EasyBCD. I'll try it, but don't honestly expect a result.

No, I think that I am not fooling W7 with my fake drive

Maybe I will have to treat myself for Christmas
New more powerfull PSU and a second drive cant be much more than €100

I could not install windows because I was getting a message that my Raid 0 was probably not bootable and I should check the bios

Well I did this, I tried every possible combination possible to connect the discs to the board as I have Master and Slave SATA sockets, I tried Deleting/wiping/Formatting my drives. I tried version 7000 NOTHING WORKED!!:sa::sa::sa:

The Answer

This is very logical of course, I removed 2 gig from my 4gig RAM, 7 is now installing as I type:

I thought perhaps wrongly that this was just a Vista x64 thing.
I would have thought that it would be corrected by Win 7 and am somewhat disappointed to have this problem. after everything that I haveseen from 7 so far

I am also really HAPPY because it is working and I will be back later with my WEI which should be quite interesting

Ps I am using a proper Raid 0. The original post I wasn't

OFFS - your RAM was getting in the way?

I have yet to have my 4 GB of RAM get in the way - I do not understand why this is so hit and miss with folks.
