Computer was operating fine until recent windows update, then the above error message is now displayed in lower bottom right corner on the desktop. Have run the MGAD tool and the report results are below. The sticker has worn off so that the product description can no longer be read, only the product key. Windows tells me that its running Windows 7 Premium 32bit Operating system service pack 1
Ram 1GB
Chip 1.60 Ghz N270

Your installarion has to be classed as counterfeit.
With your specs, it's likely that the machine shipped with Starter edition installed, rather than the current Ultimate - but someone has since 'upgraded' it and installed a hacker's Activation Exploit to force acrtivation and validation to be accepted - Windows has now discovered this, and it's this which is raising red flags.

You need to reformat and reinstall using genuine media - unfortunately media for Start edition are not available by download, so your only option is to order a set of media direct from the manufacturer.

What a pain - will have to go back to the person whom I bought it from - however, I thank you very much for taking the time to give me a solution.

Sorry it wasn't better news.
Good luck - but I doubt you'll get any satisfaction from the seller. You should go straight to the manufacturer, and order the media from them (unless you want to try forcing the seller to give you a full refund!)

I just had the same thing happen to me. I am running Windows 7 Pro X64. It is totally legit, it had been running for the last year on my pc, but I had to replace the motherboard (due to a failure) and processor and then reinstall windows. After a couple of days it started running extremely slow and the 7601 error appeared in the lower right corner of the desktop. It seems that this started right after SP1 was installed through Windows Update. Any ideas?

BTW, I am new to this site, should I have done a new post instead of adding to this one?

Please post an MGADiag report to a new thread of your own.

Please follow this tutorial and post an MGADiag report - then we can see what the problem is.

Please also state the Version and Edition of Windows quoted on your COA sticker (if you have one) on the case of your machine (or inside the battery compartment), but do NOT quote the Key on the sticker!
