i have checked the ""MBR - Restore Windows 7 Master Boot Record"" http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/20864-mbr-restore-windows-7-master-boot-record.html

but it did not work on my case. i have a laptop installed windows 7, it was okay. until today i saw a article about removing the 100MB of "system reserved" partition.......and yeah...i did removed it by using my win7 installation dvd.. now my laptop wouldnt boot...it shows only operating systen not found"

i tried the method above but at Step 3, mine did not show up any operating system..all blank so i just clicked next

then at Step 9

it couldnt restore the bootsector code.
it only shows "the system partition was not found: the requested system device cannot be found"

and then everything remain the same, still cannot boot.

i know i am stupid to remove the system reserved partiton..

but i really need help here, i have imporant data in the laptop so i dont want to format and reinstall...

if anyone can help, i really appreciate

You need to mark Win7 active before Startup Repair will work properly to write the MBR to Win7.

Boot Win7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery Tools list, select Command Line, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (Replace # with Win7 HD #)
LIST PARTITION
SELECT PARTITION # (replace # with Win7 partition #)
ACTIVE
EXIT

Now return to Recovery Tools list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots to write MBR to Win7.

Sorry for reviving this thread.

I had a similar problem and using the steps provided by gregrocker, The Windows 7 Installation finally showed up when I enter the recovery menu. (Thanks very very much BTW :D)

The problem is it still won't boot to windows.

If I boot from the DVD and enter recovery menu and do a startup recovery It tells me that the OS booted successfully and that there are no problems.

But when I boot from the HD, It shows that its loading windows files with the white bar at the bottom and then goes to a recovery menu where it tells me there is problem and it can't fix it. When I check the log to see which test it fails at, it shows that all tests were successful but there is a problem and it can't find out what!

I tried using bootsec.exe to fix the mbr and boot, no change, When I try scanos or rebuildbcd, it tells me there are zero windows installations!

The final thing I would like to add is all the files are there and that the HD is not failing. I can access the C partition from Ubuntu and everything is OK.

Please help me.
