Windows 7 cant access Windows XP - "Login Error"

Hi! I tried to setup my home network(peer-to-peer without server) to share some files without succeeding. Ok. I know this has been discussed and posted quite sometimes over the net, but i just couldn't find the exact solution after searching and trying for the past 4 hours :shock:

There is actually some other issue, but i have solve them all except this one - Windows 7 could see Windows XP Home but could not connect to it(but the XP could connect to 7). Whenever i try to connect, it will prompt me to login. I have create a 'login account' on both ends and try to use that to login but everytime it will says "logon failure: unknown username or password" - I did not prefix the PC's name, just enter the username and password

I am really out of ideas, please HELP~! Below is my "settings"-
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
Windows XP Home SP3
Both is on the same Workgroup/IPGroup/Netmask
Both has File & Printer Sharing Enabled
Have patch XP with KB922120v6
Have Shared 2 folders on XP
Changing the XP's NetBIOS over TCP/IP, Starting the Computer Browser Service
There is some setting that i would like to try, but it is only for XP Pro....
*please take note that I will change back to the original value if any of the setting is not working after applied

If you are using homegroup in win 7 it gave you a password on creation. that is what it is looking for

If you dont know what it is you can go into network and sharing and change it, or create a new network connection using workgroup (the old fashion way) which doesnt require a password.

- I am trying to connect my Windows 7 to my XP Home. So the Homegroup thingy should not apply in my case right? Or if im wrong, how should i enter the login info(username)?

You are using one of two methods to network your computers. Homegroup, or workgroup. when you set it up and it asked is this a home network, or a work network, what did you say?

Hi, guys! I have change my Windows 7 to 'Work network' now(previously was Home network. Hopefully thats Workgroup as i understand), but it still could not pass the 'login' stage.

What weird is the 'domain'. The login dialog will show that im login into 'Domain: Windows7PC' when im trying to login into the XP. And after i have enter 'wrongly', it will show the username as 'Windows7PC\username' and ask to try again - it means im login into the Windows 7. And if i try to prefix the PC's name in front - \\WindowsXP\username then it will prompt \\WindowsXP is not accessible..... The specified username is invalid

I have crate the 'shortcut' as suggested and when i click on it, it will opens up the Network Connection page. But i have no idea how it could help in my case. Sorry. Please tell me what have I done wrong and how to resolve this.

p/s- i do not have third party firewall and Avast free antivirus on both ends. Just tried switching off Windows XP firewall with same effect.
