OK, I would like to use the classic theme, but keep the start button orb too ( OR use the aero theme, but keep the classic style and 2 color styles on the top of my windows...) Is any of this possible? :sarc: Just wondering...
Thanks!

Perhaps the others are unclear as to what you want to do? I know I am. You should be able to change start orb only if that is what you desire. Can you post some pictures of what it is you want to do? A Guy

No!

Actually that's not quite true. You could if you could persuade a visual styles guru to waste hours on turning everything in the aero theme back to classic except the start orb. I think your chances are less than zero!

Or, the other thing that I said...which is to enable the start orb to be used in the classic theme? That would be easier...My custom start orb disappears if I switch to classic theme.

My start orb completely disappears when I switch to the classic theme...Hmm...maybe its the windows 7 orb changer program I am using ( I should use res hacker I guess to change my start button and see what happens...)
- I cannot do this right now because as of Monday my laptop was stolen in a break and entry robbery of my house...so...hmm...

Maybe you are using the Basic theme, not Classic.
Basic looks like Aero but has no transparency.
Classic looks like Windows 2000 and as far as I know doesn't support start orbs. The start button is always a gray rectangle with "Start" written on it.
You can post a screenshot of your start orb to clear any confusion :)

Me :) I build all my PCs
OS
Windows 7 Home 64, Vista Ultimate 64
My orb is the original classic start button =P For some reason , I just like windows 95/98 looks better than the newer versions of windows... so I try to keep the old looks of them. Is it is not possible to use a custom start orb with windows classic theme? Or anything that can be modified for me to be able to use the custom start orb I have?

In a word ... no! Classic theme means classic start button.

Not for windows 7 , it isn't the original start button, just a newly done one... ( which I would like to replace it with the classic win 98 one =P ) ...So, I guess I will be stuck with windows 7 themes for a while...unless there is a way to have my custom win 98 start button with the windows classic theme... >sigh< Oh well I guess...

I know I'm necro-posting, but I'm too interested to not voice my support for an awesome theme idea.

Anyone notice how uncreative most of the VisStyles are for Windows 7 so far? Windows XP had some excellent and varied themes.

Anyway, yeah; I think what the guy was asking for was a Windows 7 classic theme that took advantage of the Aero features. That would be really nice indeed. Huge fan of the classic look. Oooh, or Mac OS 9. :D

I'd do it myself if I knew how to make / compile visual style themes. Does anyone know if there's software for that, or is it all manual image editing?

You are most definetly not 'necro-posting' ( is that grave digging BTW? ) I support throughly of gravedigging , posts that are unanswered but still important to the person that posted , gravedigging can be very helpful =P . >urk< I would hang myself if I ever used Mac OS 9 again...windows 98 was a much better operating system...But yes Mac does have some nice looks. ( Like the icons at the bottom of the screen that you can scroll through, that is cool. ) As for what I was originally requesting ( being able to change your start button in the classic theme ) Kishan on the windows club forum has implemented that into his program ( ---thats what he told me he was going to do anyways. ) It would be nice to have a program that completely overtook the windows 7 theme settings and brought up the nice dialog you got in win 98 when you clicked properties ( like this http://www.bltt.org/assets/images/access/win98/thumbnails/display_appearance.gif )
And then you could change all the theme settings and combine all the aero and classic themes at will.
---For some reason my posts are displayed twice on some computers ( and not on others)...yet when I try to edit it, theres only one post...thats odd.
