Windows 7 Clean Setup stuck on Installing Updates step

Hi community,
i have a old ide motherboard with a sata hdd connected onto it with a convertor and have tried to do a clean installation windows 7 ultimate RTM on it. Except heres the problem. When it comes up to the "Installing Updates" stage nothing happens. It just stays like that untill 2 hrs later it says that the installtion media could not be acessed. I have tried restarting the setup but it still doesnt work


Please HELP!

M/B:ASUS P4XPX
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.66Ghz
HDD: Hitachi HDS721050CLA362 SATA

First use the MS site Upgrade Advisor, make sure that there are not any known conflicts. If that comes up negative, back up your hard drive (make an image). Boot up from the DVD not your OS. When you get to the screen that asks if you want custom or upgrade, hit upgrade, chose advanced, then format. It should work.
If you have an upgrade disc, do not put your key number in until the process is completed and you have tried it for a while. Win or lose let us know what happens.
