Hello! Im new to the forums here & have quite the problem.
You see, not too long ago i got a new computer with windows 7 which was cool & all but for some reason I get these periodic connection drops! (Im not sure what to call it really, lag spike, freeze-up, connection drops, etc.) Its really only noticeable when im on Skype (my friends cannot hear me) & when I play a game that requires internet. From the few tests i have done with this all i have figured out is that it occurs every 5-10 minutes, lasts only a few seconds, is not caused by any background processes, & in the task manager 'Network tab' the network graph drops whenever this happens. This did not occur on any other computer in my house but maybe that's because all my other computers don't have windows 7.

Details:
-Im running from a laptop
-Wireless Conncetion
-My wireless card thingy model is "Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6250 AGN"
-Core i7
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
-A terrible download speed of around 200 K/B per sec.
-When ever I join a game like a TF2 server my ping will start off around 100 & slowly decrease until about 50-60 & stay like that.
-A test I did was I disconnected from my wireless card & once I disconnect the effects of the 'drop-out' happen except, obviously, they don't stop until i re-connect.
-I have disabled any power saving options, disabled IPv6, & re-installing the driver.
(I dont know much about computers so this as much as i can tell you)
-When the 'drop-out' happens it still says im connected to the internet

Please help me & if I haven't given enough detail about my computer please ask & I will try to find it.
All answers appreciated

There are several factors to consider.

Is your router connected to the main telephone socket?

Do you have a filter on each telephone socket?

Is your ISP throttling your bandwidth i.e. are you on an unlimited package or one with restrictions on how much you can download?

Do you still experience the problem when all other computers are switched off or disconnected from the internet?

Have you tried an ethernet connection to see if that's the same?

Welcome Diremuffin to the windows 7 forums.

One thing to try is to see what connecting your computer to the router directly with a cable to see if it is the wireless signal that is being dropped or interferred with.

Can you do that for a test?

That download speed is pretty low for transferring data and playing games.

Well I'm sorry but I'm not sure how to answer those questions or check for an answer. I doubt anyone in my house has a clue but I'll keep those questions in mind for when I call someone who knows about this connection issue.

Unfortunately, I cannot check whether or not it works directly because when I do connect my little cord (I think its called an ethernet cord) to the router directly it will not allow me to access the internet about 1 minute after I have connected it to the router. The only way I'm able to connect back to the internet for another 1 minute is by disabling my cord & re-enabling it.
BUT my home computer is connected directly to the router & has a perfect internet connection with no connection drops at all. (Probably because we had an IT man help us connect it & he knew what he was doing unlike me)
