Hi everyone, I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, from Vista 64-bit. So far, the OS has been unusable. I've not been able to get it running for more than an hour without randomly freezing up. My event log lists Kernal-Power Event ID 41 as the problem. Also, when I checked my device manager, it tells me that I have no coprocessor driver. When I try to update to the lastest drivers, it tells me something like it can't find them or they're unknown.

So far I have upgraded my nVidia drivers to the lastet version (195.62) and set my power usage to High-Preformance. Neither of these things have solved the problem.

My Specs:

Gateway GT5678
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Q6600 Quad Processor (2.4GHz)
4GB DDR2
750GB
GeForce 9800 GTX

Any help is greatly appreciated as I cannot use my computer AT ALL (I'm using the family laptop ATM).

Alot of Vista drivers are compatabile with Windows 7.
If you can find the manufactor of your motherboard and check their site for a Windows7 driver to see if their is in fact one.

You can try the Vista driver,it should work, just back up your data just incase something goes wrong:)

Unfortuantely, I cannot download anything. I simply don't have time, the computer is freezing after 5 minutes of being on or less. I have no idea how to fix this.

However, I went in too safe mode and I noticed that it said Windows 7 build 7600 at the top. I had downloaded that build months ago and it did the exact same thing, constant freezing. That is why I went out and bought the Home Premium version. I figured that when I installed Home Premium, it would erase build 7600 and I would have a working version of Windows 7. I guess I was wrong, how can I get it off my computer because I think that could be the issue...

I'm having the same problem, mine isnt as frequent and only seems to happen while im using the computer, if i leave it on all day to seed torrents i come home and its fine, but it could freeze 20 minutes later, or not at all that night.

You can do via another pc,load it to a disc.
Then load the drivers that way,if thats not possible, you can try adding the drivers at the install screen when installing the OS.
Use the advanced option, format the drive and then click load drivers, load via the CD.
Build 7600 is the final RTM build, perhaps the download you have is bugged.

Will a Gateway Restore DVD work? It says it reinstalls hardware drivers, applications and operating systems...

Well, I've updated the drivers, and it's still freezing. The only a few things I can think of now. One is a BIOS update, but I have no idea how to do that. Also, it still says that the drivers for my coprocessor are not installed. Where can I get these?

Try this

here are a couple of things I would try first in msconfig go to the boot tab and click on advanced options and under number of processors and make sure it's set to 4

then in task scheduler look for RAC and delete it see if this helps

While in safe mode, I don't experience any freezing.. What does this rule out as the problem?

Safe Mode

a lot of stuff is not running in safe mode you can start in msconfig and on the startup tab uncheck everything that is not needed which would be most of it then on the services tab check the box that says hide microsoft services then uncheck pretty much everything that is left reboot and see how it goes if everything is ok if you want to you can re enable that stuff one by one to find the offender but i would leave much of it off as its not needed and only slows the computer

The processors was set to 1, I changed it to 4. Also, by RAC do you mean "RacTask"?
