In A WinXP / Win2003 server environment, you do not need to install the drivers in to each WinXP client. This is automatic.

Moving to Windows 7, will I need to install Server 2008 to get this same level of automation.

Are you asking about the remote management console?

Because for server 03 R2 I cannot access my win 7 or vista machines using it.
But I can access the server from the Workstations.

I am talking about how a user can simply search for a printer in AD and the drivers are then simply added automatically to his workstation, when he adds it.

We have a Server 2003 R2 environment and have started to deploy Win7 to select users as part of a pilot group. The printers are automatically installed by group policy and those machines had no problems getting the right drivers for the printers. I think the same should be true in your case as well.

Sorry about the length of time before I replied and Setup a print server and tell it add printer to server and when you search for a printer it will show right up

Drivers for Printers ??

There is folder for each OS on a print server. If you run 32 bit Server 2003 and 32 bit XP they use the same driver and there is nothing to setup. If you want Server 2003 and Win 7 or Server 2008-R2 and XP then you need to add the drivers for the client OS to the server. Then they will install automatically. Otherwise the client will report that there is no driver and prompt you to install the right one.

So I can add Windows 7x64 client drivers to a Windows 2003 R2 x86 server ?

Yes, you can add them for the machines to install but they will not be used for the server.
